No the bunks are the same I checked the trailers with the boats both in the lake and they were identical. It has to be the shape of the hull that does that, You are correct the VLX is sitting above the fenders and mine nests in between when loaded"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" John Wooden- Rest in Peace

the Z1 does have a notch in the hull that runs up from the stern to just past the fenders. I do not know if you would call it a spray pocket or not it is much smaller then I saw on the earlier hull designs. but that is what is nested inbetween the fenders.
