All in all, it turned out kinda funny, in an ironic way. No he was not in it, our boat mechanic was! They had just launched it, and he was idling it back to the dock. I was with my wife down at another friend's deck visiting, as he was idling by, then right in front of us, BOOOM!!! Gas vapors ignited.... Jerry the mechanic stood up, tried to find the fire extinguisher, (it was in the motor compartment)and finally just gave up. He tossed his cell phone towards the shore, and missed. When he saw the phone splash, he yelled F*&K at a level that echoed through the whole cove, then he just dove in and swam for shore. Later that evening, we were visiting with Jerry, the mechanic, and he quipped:" That should teach him a lesson not to write me a hot check!" After all the shock, we all had a good laugh, including the boat owner, despite the fact it was his birthday.... He found an identical boat yesterday on e-bay and bought it.... Crazy.
