Im lost without the PW thread!!!!

I don't think 120 is realistic for a ME after 5 years, unless you invent something you can build a company around. My friends from college that went into engineering started making around 30k and worked their way up from there. I think they are making 50-90ish now but it seems from pics on FB I am doing a little better than they are and I did not go into engineering, even though Environmental Engineering was my major and Geology was my minor.

I was also in the DINK category for a while so that help my wife and I get a head start on personal finances, and we bought and sold a house for a little profit before the market crashed.

Thats my fear, pay for schooling for 4-5 years and make 30k Not to be too greedy but I was hoping for at least 75 out of school with experience in refinery, welding and fitting, and mayb this pipeline controller position on how the pipeline flows and operates..... IDK tho

Conoco was hiring for people with a bachelors and starting out at 120k. But mayb that was a senior position

That 30k starting salary was for a baby engineer with no experience in 2000. I'm sure base salaries have gone up a little since then but I would realistically not expect anything more than 50 coming straight out of school. But starting salary is not the end all number. Once you get experience and move up the ladder the salaries become much better. And if your smart about how to pay for school at the worst it should all be paid off in 10 years. I still say it's a good investment to use school loans if you have to, I worked 2 jobs and still took out loans for my college, 60k between myself and my wife, but dual income no kids (DINK) status helped us pay them off in 3 years.

That is not a starting salary, that sounds like a project manager or supervisor of some sort.

When I lived in TX I used a 3/2 full length surf suit that I got from a surf shop in Galveston. We used the boat all year round and the coldest water was 58 in Lake Amistad.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. I'll probably grab a couple tops too for the days when it's not too cold.

I'm not sure what the water temp gets on the river Mike, but it's probably colder than most lakes due to the tide and brackish water. I'll prob just stick to a wet suit.

I found several on CL for pretty cheap, including some nice pretty nice ones.

Salaries are an interesting thing. I took a pay cut for better opportunities, not something many would do. It has taken several years but it is starting to pay off. My wife has not had to work for the last 7 or so years. When I graduated from college my schooling was paid for. I worked full time plus all through school plus watched my kids. My youngest kids are now in second grade. I have been in my field for close to 20 years. I know that I make a lot less than my counterparts yet my boss sends them all to me for help and I typically fill in for him. Some of it comes down to quality of life as well. Yeah I would like to make more money, who wouldn't but I enjoy what I do and what I have to do for my job. Even if I am working long hours at times. I am hoping that all my efforts will pay off. If not I will consider other options. I think we all need to have a polished resume at any giving time.

Very good point skippa. I will take a pay cut for this job, but prolly not more than 6-8 bucks I guess we will see shortly. Im pretty stoked just at the thought of all the opportunities tho
