2004 Tige 22V

I have a 2004 22V but with the Marine Power engine. I would suggest carefully checking the vinyl - the seams on mine are pulled extremely tight and split just from people sitting on them. I bought mine used and the dealer got new seat skins, but after two years they basically all need replaced again. I never step or walk on them, the boat stays inside, etc. No help from Tige on this one. Also, my vinyl walk through windscreen won't snap on, but I don't care because I just use the bow filler cushion to stop the wind. The snaps appear to be in the wrong place (my dealer shrugged this one off).

The other thing to look at is tower pads - where the tower bolts to the boat. Mine needed replaced and Tige was out as of last spring, so some parts are probably not being supported anymore. I made due with some weatherstrip from Lowe's. My brother has a 2004 24V with the same problem.

With a 2004 boat, you could be getting close to time to replace the steering cable. Mine is noticably stiff compared to the beginning of last summer, but I don't know if that's related to age, or hours. My boat has about 340 hours on it now.

Like many of these boats, the gas gauge is a joke. If the needle gets to 1/2 tank, I have maybe 5 gallons left. It's a common problem you will see brought up over and over - there may be a fix but the sender is in the tank so it's not easy to get to.

All that said, it's a wonderful boat, built very solid. Top speed is around 42 but the boat will start to porpoise a little sometimes depending on how it's loaded. Top end burns about 24 gallons/hour of gas, about 11 gal/hour at wakeboarding speed with no boarder. All of the cleats, etc. have held up well, all the switches still work, etc.

The ski wake is much better than my old I/O but you have to get above 30 mph or so for the wake to flatten out. I have wakesurfed a little and some ballast or friends really help. It's a crazy looking wake going that slow with ballast.

The boat turns on a dime and feels very safe with my family in it. The value that Tige builds in is obvious when you compare their fit/finish/layout/innovation and price with the competition.

This boat has very low hours. I didn't notice any of the problems you've described, but will look into it carefully before going through with the sale.

yeah... have charlie and company over there install it for you! To me, it doesnt matter how much I spend on a boat- drilling a hole in the bottom is a little disconcerting for me to do myself. Of course I COULD do it, but I'd rather have the pros working on it if something goes awry.

BTW, perfect pass is WELL worth the investment! I have absolutely no regrets in ordering mine with it. Even if I have gotten lazy with the throttle, it makes things easier. Also, you spend less time watching the speed and more time watching your surroundings. Lets not forget to mention that you're just about guaranteed a consistent pull!

The boat is valued around $37,000-$42,000. Man, this vinyl issue is really starting to wory me. The last thing I want to do is spend a bunch of money on a boat and then have to replace the vinyl in six months. Although my prospective boat is used, it appears to be in really good condition. It was kept indoors and really cared for.

Tige' should have a longer warranty on this. Maybe I should go for a new one instead.

if you're that concerned about it, try looking for a deal on an '05- they changed the interior on those so that where the seams are splitting on the '03-04s, the seats come apart, so theres nothing to tear. Basically, they attached the front "roll" on the seat to the base and the seating surface behind it comes off.

Has anyone got a straight answer from Tige why they have a seams problem? I can see it in a boat with the price point of a Four Winns but at the price point of a semi loaded Tige that would be unexpected.

Well have not looked real close since we got the Tige, but our 180 horizon was top notch......snap-out Berber, thick, soft vinyl, no wood, tilt wheel, matching Trailer (ok, not 4Winns), great storage, sport seating (bench seating), duel captains chairs.

k I had a 94 180SE Horizon with Sport Seating and dual bucket w For Winnns trailer got rid of it to buy the 07 20V. Had few problems with it. It ran like a Timex watch and Forwinns was top knotch on the seams support.

The only problem we ever had was with the VDO automotive style electronic gauge cluster. The Speedo would when it wanted to and this was usually when we where tubing or cruising, and go on strike when when boarding or skiing When you would turn the Nav lights at night, the cluster would glitch out and the warning lights would come on and the gauges would wig out.

Waited till we were ready to sell it before replacing the $600 cluster. 4Winns only used the VDO's for 2 yrs due to high failure rates and went back to all manual gauges.

This is not from Tige, but the vinyl was prestretched to make it softer. This resulted in it being more prone to tearing at the seams. Later on (I think in 2005) they changed the design and the materials they use. They never "officially" had an "issue," but as you can see on here there are a few of us that have had the same occurance on the same year models ('03 and '04). The fact that they changed it the following year illustrates that they needed to address something. However, since it wasnt a safety issue and would be too costly to do a retroactive refit (or recall), they apparently opted to do a "fix it as it happens" approach. Many manufacturers do this- Ford, GM, Chrysler, Dell, you name it.

Just to point out, Tige changed thier vinyl again for the 07's to a much softer, almost leather like feel. Dont know of any wide spread "issues", just normal for a company to change/update things to keep up with the comp.

Supposedly the seams on the 07's and newer have been redesigned and should not have previous years problems according to Tige rep.

the seams on the '05s and later are different. I believe the '07s have a better vinyl.

In 08, they also went away from the Friction fit cushions on the Ve's, more like the Rz2 (maybe other models to)
