How to fold tower to fit under 9' garage

Hi, new to the forum, just purchased a 2007 20V and had to totally dismantle the tower to get it in my 9' garage door. Is there a way to dismantle it and fold backwards. There is probably a simple way of doing this?

Congrats and welcome.

Depends on what tower you have. If it's the factory Tige "E" series tower, it's easily folded down in a couple minutes and is a one man job. Once folded, it will easily fit a 9' door.

THe normal E-series tower on a 20V with a typical trailer will be about 8'4" to 8'6" depending on tire size and glitz for the wheels. Folder the tower sits about3 1/2" above the highest point of windshield. I went thru this exercide wit an 84 inch oening which was 1 inch short.

The only time the e-series was a pita is the billets with powder coating flaking off and the fact that wheel you released a billet you had to put a cushion under the end so it did nor eat gelcoat. We had been given 4"x 3" carpet samples and used them until I replaced with Samson Sports Razor. The billets were also a pain with the bimini top.


IMO the Samson top is easier to raise and lower. It is easier to lower or raise and lower and since it collapses on to it self it never gets near the gellcoat. The bimini is also easirt to put up and take down.

I thank the carport that jumped in my way The adjuster saw a picture of the tower ran some prices and we steered him to Samson Sports and we have a nice tower on the ride.

Since insurance covered the install I had my dealer do it. never ever again. One Big mistake. They did not tap the plate but drilled hole in it and used a locking nut that worked its self loose in a week in 2008 when we were on the water. Wire looms need to be fitted, the cables for second battery need re-work and the racks were on backwards. Last year I was too sick to pay attention or even care but this spring I tightened the rack to what it should have been torqued to and no fugly rattles. Unreal that a bad install caused me so much grief. Now to fix stereo connections and fix the looms.Shoddy work.:roll eyes:

Back on subject an e-series tower will fit in a 9' high opening unless you have added 20 inch wheels and hig profile tires.. These are OK for short trip and bling but I would rather use 15" tiresfor 600-800 mile trips we used to take.

That is definitely an "E" series Tige Tower.

Pull the 2 bolts at the joints over the windshield, pull the 2 bolts securing the billet uprights to the tower, lower the uprights (place something like a rag under them), then let the tower down.

Thanks, not sure I follow, I remove the two hand bolts at the front above the windshield including the srew in bolts, then I losen the top two bolts and swing the tower backwards?

On each side of the tower in front is a hinge. Remove the ratchet bolts from there.

Then if you have board rack swing them in.


Next on each side is a vertical support held in place by ratchet bolts. Remove one side at a time and once bolt is loose raise tower slightly so vertical billet can be released fro the moon shaped opening and slowly lay it on a towel over your gunwale.

Repeat steps for other side but this time you will feel the towers full weight. make sure you put the towel over the gunwale to keep from scratching.
