Best Combo Boat????

I have a 2006 22Ve and that was what sold me on the crossover thing... I waterski as hard as anyone and used to ski novice tournaments and I love skiing behind my boat... the wake is a little bigger than a smaller direct drive but it still tracks nice and has a great holeshot... but I can surf within seconds without ballasts with just the flip of the switch on the taps2 and then I can wakeboard and wakeskate within seconds and I just put on a barefoot international tower mount barefoot boom to feed my barefoot need and teach the kids how to ski/board etc... you have no idea how much money a boom will save you on time and gas... the 22Ve also has room for 14... tons of room....
Also I test drove and skiied and wakesurfed and wakeboarded the tige head to head against a nautique 211 and the tige blew it away for crossover... IMO
good luck but you should definitely test ride the boat first...

IMPO 22ve or RZ2 i would try them both. Both will be better than a CC211 IMPO.

I have pulled several die hard slalom skiers behind my 22v, and they all like their american skiers/mc's more, but commended my big v-drive for the handling and soft wake. I haven't put a ski on in about 5 years, I like slow water, it is softer I have thought about running the crab traps like a slalom course a few times, but i can do that on my wakeboard. I think the z1 is supposed to ski a little better than the 22's, but is a v-drive with a little narrower beam and slightly less freeboard. I like the look of them too. I have heard great things about the cc210 and the bu's with the diamond hull, not sure which models those are. I like my tige though and it handles the rough saltwater the best.

I have skied and wakeboarded behind a Z1. It does alright for both. We had a guy about a month ago test drive a Z1 and he was a die hard Slalom Skier. He didnt really like it much and the wake was just too big/hard back there for him. He actually choose a Moomba Outback V over it. Its a new hull for this year thats suppossed to do everything well. On a side note the CC211 is tournament certified to pull skiing events. They also have a new crossover model the 216V. I know the 211 does well in all aspects since I have been behind one several times.

But for a Tige go with a 22Ve I think youd be disappointed in the wake behind the Z1 if your are a skier.

I can only fit 20 footer in garage and we are not selling house so we looked at and drove most 20 footers and for all around the mixed use capability of the Tige 20V along with price moved me away from MC.

I wanted a V drive. A couple of 20' V drives had pickle noses and did not get driven or skied behind because they would fit in garage but you had to open door of garage to get to third stall.


Other than a kid size bow area in the 20V the rest of the boat is roomy. I never measured but I think cockpit area may be slightly larger on 20V vs Z1 and if I remember correctly the 20V has more standard options than Z1. On 20V you are not loosing space to the rear activity center that the Z1 has. That is my worth of opinion.

It is always a matter of personal preference but you should have what feels like a great dealer experience when doing test drives. We have a very similar situation to dmgski and participate in what seems like every towable water sport known to man when we go out. My thing is barefooting and my wife is a swivel skier, those 2 things could not be more different but our 22ve does great @ both.

It seems like every time we hit the water we have @ least 11 people in the boat, 4 adults, & 7 boys all under the age of 13 so having the room and versitility was key. dmg is right the BI tower boom is a great time saver and a ton of fun w/ the kids. If you need tons of room and a very versatile boat look @ the 22ve, not to mention the significant savings over the CC.

On a side note the CC211 is tournament certified to pull skiing events.

FWIW - The 20V (Switch V) was certified too in 2004. Tige still uses the same hull.

2X Murphini. Look at 24ve for more space if afforadability is ok. We bought 07 22ve and love it but wish I'd gone for the 24ve for more space and better setup for wakesurfing which is a blast but tends toward lots of weight. New models rock w Wetsounds too

We ski and board. Went with the 24ve as it had the best overall ride when both smooth and choppy and we love the space.

You guys are amazing. Thanks for all of the great and honest input!! Please keep it coming if you have other thoughts. There aren't many owners groups that would be honest enough to recommend another brand. I'm going to get behind some boats next week and see what I think. My guess is that they will all ski a ton better than my '01 23ft MC Maristar did. The CC211 is a beautiful boat, but only seats 9 and I'd like to have more room than that. They have a new 236 crossover, but they cost a fortune and there aren't used ones to be had yet. At this point it sounds like the 22ve should be the right boat as long as I like the test drive. The extra room in the 24ve would be nice, but 14 seats are plenty and my wife is on the lake a lot without me. She always found our 23ft to be a lot to handle with just her and a bunch of kids. I'm sure the 20v will ski a bit better, but if it's close I'll probably take the extra seats in the 22ve.

Right now there are so many boats that are targeted just for you. Big enough for a family and to keep them safe, great ski wakes, but also capable of big wakeboarding and surfing wakes, not a whole lot of bells and whistles, while not compromising on other options.

The only way to know is to test them all out on the water.

Also, what is your level of slalom skiing? Speed and rope length through the course? Do you plan on sticking with it? IMO depending upon if you want to stay true to slalom, it will be the deciding factor per which boat you choose.

zad's right. Go test them all. They're very expensive so take your time and make the right decision. I've never regretted buying my Tige for that reason.

The 22Ve is a very nice boat.
