GM Vortec air cleaner

Does anyone know a better air cleaner to put on my GM vortec than this ugly piece of crap. The black cover flops all over while running.

The ugly piece of crap is your USCG required Flame arrester, and it looks like the engine cowl (black cover) is missing the retainer screw. Leave the flame arrester and find the cowl retainer.

Thanks for educating me, I left the screw out to take of the cove to see underneath, even with screw in it flops around. I will get a short screw (did I really just type that).........

Oh, ok, gotcha 'bout leaving the screw out for the pic. Yes, a shorter may apply a little more tension to the cover and hold it in place.

KnN is making a USCG approved flame arrester/filter, but IMO, it's not worth the cost. Dirty air is not a real problem on the water Not sure what applications they have any way.

Check your engine after a few hundred hours and you'll change your tune I cleaned my out last year...it was ugly.

Just put the screw in and leave the cover on.. Shouldn't be in the engine area when out on the boat for the day anyways.

Clean it once a year before getting my USCG inspection, a dirty flame arrester is on the inspection list as it can be a fire hazard if allowed to build up.

I take it off and hose it down with a can of Carb cleaner. Blow it dry or just let is air dry.

Yep, it's a free, voluntary thing through the Coast Guard Aux, they put a sticker on your window that is like a get out of jail free card. Almost guaranteed to not get stopped for a safety check.
