could it be possiable to build a walk way insert for a 2005 22v.

I would like to take the gull wing off behind the driver seat and custom build a fiberglass walkway insert to get to the swim platform so i dont wear down the vinyl.

Any ideas???

Supra has something similar when you raise the drivers side gull wing it has a platform to walk on Nice feature and it flips up so that you van get at your gear Sp I would say it is doable.

Some penske board, a stainless hinge, marine paint and and some sort of lip on engine cover partition to support that side when walking on it.

I've thought the same thing because I figure walking across the sunpad using the boat in salt water will wear it out eventually. I talked to a boat shop about building a hatch there with nice non-skid molded in and he said it would probably be $500-700. It would be a nice gelcoated hatch cored with marine plywood and finished on both sides, with non-skid finish on the top. Basically like the 22ve hatch but it would be flat across and not have the dip that the ve has.

That is a lot of bananas. On the 20V building the walking hatch would be good to egress/ingress from the swim platform since there the hatch open to the outside of boat unlike the 22VE and other models. It would still save wear and tear also I am going to rice same thing here for mine. I have a local shop that works reasonably and in the long run it would be worth it.

My previous boat was a single piece sundeck and after 14 years of labs people and lots of freshwater use never showed signs of wear. No shoes footwear of any kind was allowed and heavy weights over 220 lbs were asked to slide on butt instead of walking on it. The vinyl FourWinns used was good quality and wore well but like Tige had seam problems where stitches in places pulled thru the vinyl. After warranty expired they still replaced at no charge and from that point on we always had people step on a throw cushion so that the seat seams where not stepped on it directly on dispersed the weight. That kept it looking new for 7+ years.

When we are hanging out we put a big towel back there, but nice non-skid fiberglass hatch cover would be the best. At the same time, people lay out there when we are hanging out at the sandbar and it would be kind of a bummer to lose a big chunk or padded area.

I like the idea, simple, inexpensive, non-invasive mod, but the first thing that popped into my mind is seeing a passenger falling into the water when the boat rocks while passing through the walk-thru..............with the padded door still in there hand I would be afraid that peeps would use the cushion as a handrail and rip it right off trying to balance. Kinda like people like to use the stern-light pole as a grab rail This only happens after dark WHEN YOU NEED IT TO GET BACK TO THE DOCK

That moomba doesnt have a curve back like mine either. I ould remove the pad entirely and make the walk way flush.

Do you think the tige factory would have any reject gull wings. All i need is that piece of hard plastic that already has that shape molded to it and build it up from there

You don't need a "reject" to get that piece. If it's a production piece then your local dealer could simply order it for you.

Unfortunately the 22 v and ve are significantly different in their hatch size/design.

I think your concern is valid. maybe best used for dog boarding only. I saw it on the Supra 20' last year and thought it good but in rough weather I would also be concerned like chpthril where passengers may use the open hatch as a railing possibly tearing it off the boat or at a minimum killing the gelcoats. Its use is probably best for humans to board and disembark at the dock with this idea but not in open water were a rogue wave can knock them off balance. I would not like to see someone either rip the open hatch from its mounts but worse yet fall and land on a hot motor.

I may tackle the project for my 20V not for the peeps but for our labs. The 130+ pound Lab Moose is no longer with us, we lost her to glaucoma in both eyes and she was just too big to and literally rammed thru objects in her way. We were able to buy her a couple of years after she lost her first eye but with a two story house there were too many obstacles.

When we tried to keep her on first level of house if we went upstairs to sleep somehow managed to make it up to be with us.

In those cases I would try walking the moose down the stairs and panic struck her,and she became a runaway lab. When she got past me and stopped at the landing she was petrified because she broke 60% of the Bannister's vertical stave's. so after trying for a couple of weeks and some distraught furniture we did what we felt was best. We could not get her to stay in our family room unless someone slept in same room.

But the project would be practical for my remaining 80lb and 100lb labs and two dachshunds so they can stay off the main sundeck when coming back in from their swim. When we change skiers or boarders on hot days we let the labs out of the boat to cool off while the rider is getting reading and this way they would have a safe way to get on and off board without killling the vinyl. We have trained them to stay on towels before so they can be trained to use this approach. We need to retrain them regarding sitting in the bow because it is smaller but they Will catch on quick.
