06-07 marine power dipstick recall?

Mine is too long. I really hope I can fix this myself vs. having to drive my boat home 250 miles to fix this.

I would hope that you can do it by mail Coach.. My issue with this recall is that I have both years... an 06 24Ve and an 07 RZ2. However, my dealer is already aware of the issue and will be taking care of it this week.

I received my letter and straw Friday, checked it out over the weekend, and of course I have a "bad" one...have a note into my dealer (3 hours away) to see if the service can be done locally. Anyone know yet what is actually done to correct the problem? Seems like a longer dipstick might be a simple solution.

I got the letter a couple weeks ago and checked it last weekend. Mine is over an inch too long, so I guess I have too much oil in my boat.

Since this is a GM engine is the problem with GM providing the wrong dip stick with their engines or does marine power change the dip stick and put in their own?

I knew about this service issue in Nov. My 07 20v had too long of stick; It was fixed at 150hr. service.

I spoke to my dealer, the fix is to shorten the dip stick tube to the lengt of the straw that came with the letter. Mine is over an inch too long so I am going to cut the tube down to size with a small cutting wheel on a dremel. Should take all of 5 mins if all goes well. beats the 2 hr ride to the dealer.
I will post next week how it goes.

Big Wave, I'd be real careful about that 5 min. fix. Sounds like that would put a lot of metal grindings right into your engine. Mine is a 1/4" to long, I'm thinkin just leave oil level 1/4" low on the dipstick vs. the hassle of going to dealer 2 hrs away. does any one know how the dipstick tube is connected to the engine. I'd rather see it removed, then cut and cleaned and reinstalled.

If there is enough room you might be able to use those, mini, plumbing pipe cutters.
They shouldn't leave any shavings.

I agree with that, a tubing cutting for small copper line or a cutter for brake lines would work perfectly.

As far as removing the dipstick it isn't a difficult process at all. There would be one maybe two bolts that secure the tube and make it rigid, there is a small neck at the base with an o-ring that fits into the base of the block just above the oil pan lip. Once the bolts are remove a little rotating side to side and the tube will pop right out, simply reverse operation to reinstall. (Make sure o-ring doesn't fall off!)

Not the selling dealer, but the one that picked up Tige in thier place I figured I hang out here enough, I might as well get on the payroll

Hey, I was working, it was a promotional photo shoot

Harvey was actualy trying to get some info for me on it any way. I dont think mine is effected, but would like to know for sure.
