Chp, great info on the tower bolts...I was wondering why I couldn't easily turn the bolts even when it appeared there was no nut underneath!

I guess they went away from the aluminum. Someone at the factory does not know what is going on. Hmmm. Oh well. I guess they are plastic. I bet that is lighter material but who know sometimes that plastic stuff is very heavy depending on the gage of material.

its also cheaper to make. Back in '04 one of the things Tigé was touting was that they were the only ones not using plastic gas tanks. How times change.

CP3 is correct about the load, but any thing bolted to fiberglass should have something to distribute the load.

Now, to address the question. Tige glasses in 1/4 thick plate into the gunwale. The rear tower bolt hole is drilled and then threaded. The bolt threads through the glassed in plate, so from the backside, it looks like it's missing the nut.

Your tower is good to go, have your service guy torque them to about 22ftlb's.

So no nut? Just allen wrench and job done?

Does anyone know what our fuel tanks are constructed of? Read an article today explaining how ethanol can begin to eat away at fiberglass fuel tanks...hoping we have aluminum, as more stations around here are blending ethanol into their regular grade gas.

Since we got distracted with fuel tanks, I thought I'd answer the original question. Here's some info from a fuel tank manufacturer that I ran across while doing some other research. It sounds like the bigger danger is to the engine.

For the rear's, yes, but the front's have studs with nuts. 13/16th if I remember right

I think we were talking about fuel tanks
