Stock Tower Swap for Samson

I need some help. When I bought my boat, I could tell the Z tower folded down, but I wasn't real concerned about it. 24 feet is way to long for my garage, and I planned on keeping covered in my driveway, and then having a solution by winter, was thinking about one of those aluminum car barns you have made. But I ended with a bitchen warehouse for all of my stuff, and its great, but the tower is like a couple inches too tall, and so I have to take it down. The thing is, I want to be able to use the warehouse, even in prime season, so I need to take tower up and down, the z tower is a PITA. It takes like 3 people, and not quick or easy.

So I have been chatting with sampson, and looking at having the switchblade razor installed. From what I have heard, quick and can be done by one person, and I like the towers. I think I am leaning towards the switchblade, since my tower is 3", I think it will feel too thin with the razon 2.5".

This is going to cost me almost $4k. Do you guys know if it is possible to sell my old z tower? What can I get for it?

Bummer, cuz that def takes out my auto ballast install.

I think the market for aftermarket stock towers is pretty weak. I did have a guy once contact me when I was ruminating about swapping out for a samson, saying he had botched his tower on his boat lift and needed to replace it. I have no idea how much he would have given me, but I was just dreaming, really.

I would take it, as it would work great for me....but then when I sell I would feel obligated to reveal it does not collapse or set up easily.

I guess when I get my new boat, I could buy it without a tower and then save a few bucks by buying yours...but again, any guy spending 60K on a brand new boat isn't skimping dimes to put a used tower on a new boat.

I mean $3.50 . My tower was considerably older but I just donated it to the junk steel place to be recycled. If your tower is in pristine condition you may be able to sell it by working with your dealer to somebody who is buying a new boat, but as Tall said, it will be a tough sell. You might try ebay and list it for what you want and if it doesn't sell, then don't take it off.

Another option is to take it off and see if you can get it reconditioned - (polished or powder coated) and then try to sell it that way.

That's a tough one, it's like factory rims, they're expensive on the invoice but tough to sell in the market.

y, its what I thought, I am going to have to find that one guy who needs it or something. I will talk to the dealer, I don't have high hopes. Its a bummer, I just didn't care about that aspect when I bought it. I def wanted swivel racks, and knew I needed those, but didn't think I would ever need to take it down.

Making the Switch

OK, it looks like my boat is going to Vancouver, and I am going to be making the switch to a Samson Switchblade tower. I am both nervous, and excited.

Anybody out there with Switchblades, tell me again, how easy is it to take up and down? I need to hear it, my wife REALLY needs to hear it!

I really like the switchblade look, but mainly I am buying because the Tige Z tower I have is a pain in the butt to take up and down, if you have to do it alot, once in a while, I wouldn't replace. Now that I have my warehouse, I will have to put down every time I come in. I know I am going to destroy those powder coated stabilizers, or destroy something else, like the side of my boat, when I drop them on them.

Anyway, help a brother out, tell me about your switchblades, and pictures are welcome.

It's very easy to take down, once you get use to it, should take no more then a minute or 2. The switch blade has 4 locking points, the locking point itself is very clever, it's basically a (guessing) 3/4 stainless bolt with a ratchet handle type head on it. (no tools required)

This is where pics are worth a 1000 words......... i will try to fid some.

Simple undo the four bolts and the tower will lower like a scissor lift. it collapse within itself. and rests just above the drivers seat.

Depending on what speakers you have, it can be heavy and once it breaks the pivot point it can down fast, i can easily do it by myself and I like to control the decline, but i know you have kids, so make sure you test it out yourself 1st and develop a plan that will work for your family, because if it comes down fast ( one kid trying to get it thought the leverage point) it could hurt someone.

I think it was CP3 that hit his head on his Razor (which is lighter then the SB)

Overall you will love it!

I'll be honest, I don't know what the Switchblade tower is. Is it like mine? If it is, then it is fairly easy to fold down. My wife cannot do it by herself, and I also racked my head real good the first time. Most men should be able to do it alone, but it is a heck of a lot easier with two people. Then again we keep it in a shop, so we rarely fold it down.
