If you read the link above, its almost the same. But it is designed for use on skin. Where superglue should not:

Cyanoacrylates cure by a chemical reaction called polymerization, which produces heat. Methyl alcohol has a pronounced heating action when it contacts tissue and may even produce burns if the glue contacts a large enough area of tissue. Rapid curing may also lead to tissue necrosis. Midwives have not noted such reactions because minimal amounts are being used for perineal repair. Nevertheless, with a greater toxic potential, over-the-counter products are inappropriate for use in wound closure. (Quinn & Kissick, 1994)

Dermabond is same idea, but uses more expensive chemical to not cause burns, at least, that is what I seem to understand.

The Dermabond will not be strong enough to hold it. I superglued my finger together every week for 4 years of my life and it's just fine now.

Don't get me wrong Dermabond is good stuff if you're just covering it but if he is going th compete I would superglue it, then use duct-tape and tape his foot like he sprained his ankle. I know it sounds ghetto but it's the best tape for watersports. Just ask the ski jumper on stunt junkies.

I would get a blister on my finger from pitching.
So I glued it before every game I pitched, most of the time I could prevent it but when I did get it I would just use the superglue to cover it up.

I've done an annual fishing trip to a remote location in Canada (only accessible by float plane) and when you're fishing for Northern Pike, there will be nicks and cuts. We repair them with superglue. Works great and sure beats constantly reapplying bandaids and ointment. Heals faster also.

ragboy, don't underestimate the infection issue. If the tissue around the wound starts turning bright pink or red, you have a problem, especially on a deep wound. Getting some antibiotics as tall suggested would be a good idea.

Duct tape is a terrific idea for that location.

It might sound obvious, but don't forget to put something over the sutures and then put the duct tape on top of that so that you are not putting the duct tape right on the sutures, or else it will be difficult to get the tape off safely. I have seen people put duct tape right on top of stitches.

I would be very careful and have him stand flat footed with his heels on the floor while he bends his knees, that is going to pull some on the laceration. You need to know how much tension will be there when he squats on his wakeboard. Better to find out now that there is going to be some stitches popping, than out in some backwoods Louisiana swamp .
