New Boat (Tower and Fuel problem)

Just got a 2007 22ve this past week and put in the water this weekend.....
Overall happy with boat,but....anyone have a problem folding their tower up and down? We keep our boat under a canopy and take the tower down upon docking Taking it down is not a problem but it is pretty difficult to get the screws to line up when putting it back up....also the sides of the tower fall back and rest on the gel coat which makes me nervous.....
Also, our gas gauge does not work at all......kinda frustrating with all the money spent on the boat....

I also have to lower the tower in the dock when I'm done for the weekend. When I'm done I simply remove the uprights and set them in the boat. Upward pressure on the tower helps and I remove the fixed hole screws first, bottom then top. Then I loosen the slotted screw and lift the upright out. For the tower joints I keep upward pressure on the tower keeping the joint tight. Screw comes out easily. Repeat the second side the same way and tower comes down easily.

Second pair of hands helps when going back up, I just reverse the order.

Do you have the "E" series tower? if so, here is what I found that works. when you take it down, lay a couple of terry cloth detail towels on the gunwalls to lay the up-rights on. When you start to erect the tower, lift the cross bar up and set one of the up rights in place but leave bolt out for now. Next install the bolt at the fold on the side that is supported by the up right and then install the bolt at the other fold. Now lift the other up right and set in place and the bolt should line right up and then go back to the first up right and install that bolt.


I had the sending unit replaced in mine this Feb, so I know that Tige is using one that works now. These tanks are long and narrow so you may not see any movement in the needle until you have used 1/4 to 1/2 tank like me. From there it is dead on, I should know, ran it till the engine hick-uped a couple of weeks ago.

You might also put some gator grip in the spots that the tower contacts the boat.

Is the only way to lower the "E" by removing the uprights? If not, does this way help the chipping of the paint on the uprights if you have them powdercoated? My boat is on its way w/ the "E" series tower and I have the uprights powdercoated. I have read a few threads about the paint chipping for people who lower their tower often and I was just wondering if this was a solution.

I also have to lower my tower to put it on my lift. I got two big sponges at Lowes (like 3" thick) and rest the uprights on those sponges. They are heavy enough that they won't shift any. I then rigged an eye hook up to the roof and tie off the tower to keep if off the cover when we leave. Works great and sure cheaper than a new dock. Mooring whips are also great! We just tie up, use the whips and only lower the tower at the end of the weekend.

My dealer put in a new tank sending unit and so far the gauge has been working great.

Raise the canopy, so that you don’t have to take the tower down. That what we did.
Got longer polls at the hardware store.

Seems like they might be having a cronic problem with gas gages or sending units. I was told before taking delivery of mine that they had to work on the gas gage operation as it wasn't working. I was never told exactly what was done but was glad that they did a good pre delivery check and found it before I got it. However I did have a starter go out at 9 hrs, had the boat serviced for that, picked it up and went right to the water for a ride, and guess what! Gas gage didn't work. Had to take it back to them again. I was told that the float was stuck, and that the tech had to pull out the float and reinstall. Which I personally thick was a bunch of hog wash. I think the tech did something during starter replacement and just didn't want to tell me the truth. I don't think he had the boat long enough to get the back seat out pull up the floor to access the top of the fuel tank.

Well, if they catagorize the problem as something that is under warranty, then they can get more mone from you and Tige. Sad to say but this happens in the car industry also.

I just got my 24Ve a few weeks ago. When I am full, it shows about half. When I am half tank, it shows about empty. I called my dealer, and he said, sorry, thats just how they are, that doesn't sound right to me. Sounds lazy.
