How do they determine seating capacity?

Just looking through some of the previous model year's tige boats and am a little confused on how seating capacity changes from year to year often with no apparent change in hull or structure? I thought it was some function of boat weight and bouyancy? Also noticed there is a big difference in some Supras and other makers too.

Good question!!!! I "think" it varies state by state but for example my '04 21i states 8 people and the '05 21i states 10???????????????? 'spain that!!!!! But what i heard from the guys @ the marina if your boat is 21ft. or over you don't have to adhere strickly to that "number" not sure if that is totally true or not. I've had up to 12 people on my boat before and it was fine.......now obviously I didn't have ballast in @ that time, but with 12 people hell you don't need it!

I'v read that these are for Coast Gaurd Cert. and that boats over a certain lenght (21 or 22) are not required to have a sticker, but if they do, you must fallow it

Although federal law requires capacity plates only for boats less than 20 feet in length, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) requires a capacity plate on all boats less than 26 feet in order to be certified by NMMA

Look for a capacity plate near the operator's position or on the transom of the boat. This plate indicates the maximum weight capacity and/or the maximum number of people that the boat can carry safely in good weather.
You should not exceed either the stated maximum weight capacity or the maximum number of people.
Maximum weight is the combined weight of passengers, gear, and motors.
In many states, it is a violation to exceed capacity. (See if this applies in your state.)
Federal law requires single-hull boats less than 20 feet in length to have a capacity plate. (However, PWC and sailboat manufacturers are not required to attach a capacity plate.) Always follow the recommended capacity found in the owner's manual and on the manufacturer's warning decal. Never exceed these capacity recommendations.
On vessels with no capacity plate, use the following rule of thumb to calculate the number of persons (weighing 150 lbs. each, on average) the vessel can carry safely in good weather conditions.

Number of people =

vessel length (ft.) x vessel width (ft.)

For example, for a vessel 18 feet long by 6 feet wide, the number of persons is 18 times 6 (or 108) divided by 15, which equals seven 150-lb. persons (or a total person weight of 7 x 150, or 1050 lbs.).

My boat doesn't have a capacity plate. I was told that because it was over 21ft that it wasn't required. Tige doesn't keep records back that far for me. There is not a place where one could've been on my boat, I would've seen the rivet holes.

The 24V has a capacity of 12 which is less than the calculated value assuming a 24ft length and 8.5 foot (102 inches) width for each boat.

The only thing I can think of in that case is the extra transom "seats." I think more then 8 on the V or Ve for a cruise is cramped. Doubling that could more easily classified as an orgy.

I wish mine didn't have one........... B/c think about it... ALOT of us put SOME type of ballast in our boats........whether or not it's a water bag/lead/sand and figure 75% or more of us break that law everytime we are out on the water. I mean look @ these guys who put like 2000lbs or more ballast in their boat! Which is think is totally fine.......load your boat how you wish, but I just can't see where it is THAT big of a deal to have an extra person or two on your boat....especially with our Tige's since they generally have more space then the competition b/c of the beam!!! Especially in the 21i department........... My boat is alot wider then some of the other boats on our lake *ALL 21ft. or below* and ALL DD!!!! So, anywho.....I just think it's KAKA and we'll see if we ever get caught!

Formulas Shmormulas. It's much simpler than that. They just put as many people in there as they can and call it good. Some years the people they get are fatter than other years. Simple.

If you ride with a bunch of Alvies, your seating capacity is like 3.

is it legal to ride on the "sun deck" while driving riding towing and dont you have to have like some kind of "grab rails"to hold on too what about the pylon for the v drives dose that count as a grab rail.

tige' if your listening some kind of grab rails would come in handy for next to the sun deck on the sides i think CC dose somting like that.Tige' sleep on it.

I'll pass on the "grab rails" on the sun pad, don't want to look like a city bus going down the lake. But one of those things to drop your tokens in before you get on would be ok

What I like about the RZ2 is that flip over seat cushions, where you can step on it. Thats the major problem we have is when were down at the ozarks and we have relatives piling in the boat with dirty shoes, it gets all over our nice clean white seats.

See there are grab rails for the sundeck.....

Those come in handy for teak surfing, when it gets too dark for boarding
