GMC has some good incentives right now so we made a great deal (at least for around here). Factory tow package, auto four wheel drive and few other goodies.
One of the best things about the Duramax set up is getting the Allison trans. I see some pretty brutal hills 'round here and this truck kills it going up and coming down. 17mpg when not towing and 14 when towing. I tow quite a bit and this has been the best damn truck I've ever driven. I've towed with several different type of trucks. 1/2ton small blocks, 3/4ton small blocks, 3/4ton big blocks, 1ton big blocks, 1ton deisels, and my 3/4ton deisel. I'll tell you, I was pretty impressed with the 3/4ton small block, it did very well, athough it died on the hills a bit. The 1tons ride too rough, big blocks suck too much gas, and the 1/2tons just don't have the suspension or brakes for heavy duty towing. Every time I tow with my 2500HD D-max/Allison, I fall in love all over again. It has been worth every penny of the 39k I paid. Sure, I'm a little bummed the price of deisel has gone through the roof. It doesn't make me feel any buyers remorse though. The truck makes up for it in mpg.
