Amp for Tower: High power but very efficient - 4 channel amp bridged to two 2X350 watts


5 channel amp for boat and subwoofer 4 X50 RMS watts for boat speaker 1 X300 watts for subwoofer

Nice setup! I ordered a 12 inch square Kicker sub off of Ubid, but then I found the TC systems sub. Let me know, if you want a 12" square also in your boat!

Do you have more info on the TC systems sub? I had not heard of them. The shop that is doing my stereo likes Kicker in the boat and the Tige's have room for a single 15" so I will give them my business, thanks for the offer. Did you order the Wetsounds yet? Mine came in last week and they look bitchen. I pick up the boat on Wed and will be mounting them. I will take some pics for you after I get them up.

Xplosion ordered my Pro 485s last week. If they don't fit on the tower well, I am going to go with your configuration. I am stoked for them to come in, I hope they fit. Regarding the sub, I was meaning adding another 12" to your 15", but you probably don't have the room. Are they building a box for yours? I am going to try mine with just in the enclosure first and see how it sounds. I am excited to get my speakers, but I wish they were coming with a RZ2! I am looking forward to the pics!

They are building a custom box for the sub. The threesome will look great on the Xplosion tower. What color is the tower going to be? ( I am sure I asked before). I was thinking about 2-12" but the shop suggested a 15" to save space and still get a big sound.

Where are they? They should look a lot like mine since you directed me to the Rockford fosgate head and boat speakers! Go 5V pre-amps. I almost went with the elcipse head that had 8V pre-amp output, but no remote control for transom.

I've been busy installing mine, and redoing alot of electrical...even got a new horn.......no pics yet....my head unit is in though, and the lighted transom remote is nice.....tip for you, add speaker wire to the length of the remote harness before you start pulling it. I just now solved how I am going to mount my comps, so once I get that built up and installed, I'll have some pics. I'll also be going off the HU for a while until I decide how I want to add my sub. I have been playing with box designs. I'm trying to get a tune on a single 12" to about 35Hz; but there isn't much space to work with. Another reason I am waiting is that I want to put at least a 100A alternator in. The little 65amp one is a little light to drive the stereo I want to add while the engine is running. A couple of good bass notes, after a couple of start attempts, and that 65A alt is working pretty good to recharge 2 batteries, and continue to power your electrical equip. I figure as long as I am adding a second battery and redoing all of that, I might as well upgrade the alt too, right?

Where did you end up getting your head unit? It's hard to beat 5V pre's and mp3s in a marine HU. It looks like you got lucky on yours. Mine did not have the trim bezel or the sleeve, and RF doesn't have the sleeves anymore. I had to rework an old Sony one to get mine to fit properly. Also, I gave RF a call, and they only had the trim ring in graphite.......he sent it out under warranty for free! I was going to paint it white, but after installing it, I actually prefer the graphite. It is the same color/texture as the buttons on the HU.

Where are you getting that 5 channel, and what model is it?

One more thing, the color on the comps doesn't look the same in the sunlight as it does in the garage. I think mine are going to look great against the gray I have planned in my head.

I'm going with a single set of pro80s (should be in today) and a kicker 650.4 bridged to run them. I'm going to pick up a 12in L7 Kicker Solobaric. I'm not sure on the amp for that sub just yet. It is a 750w RMS sub. I may go with a 1K watt amp and turn it down. I'll pick up the amp/sub in the next few weeks, along with all my gear for the second battery install.

Other than that, I'm sticking with the stock head unit and deck speakers (all clarion). I know there is a small amp pushing the deck speakers, but I don't know the details yet.

I held off on the second set of pro80s for 2 reasons: 1) Money and 2) I'm not sure a second set will fit on my 05 factory tower (fairly arched) and still leave room for my bimini top (a must in AR summer). I would love to have had the choice to add a 485 to the pro80s, but I just can't with that tower.

It is a 750w RMS sub. I may go with a 1K watt amp and turn it down.

If you do this, it is pretty important that you use a true RMS multimeter to set your gains on your amp. If not, that sub will be getting sent a clipped signal fairly easily.

Example:
HU puts out 5V on the preamp (reasonable if you are listening about 3/4 volume), you have the gains on the amp set to 3/4 which is say 1.5V (amps rang can go from 0-4-8V or more)...thats outputting 1130 Watts.....so it sounds really clipped......so you turn the gains down to about half which is lets say 2V, that drops the output to somewhere around 625W.....but you want full RMS, so you turn them back up to try to find that 1.75V gain point...thats too mich, you are now at 810W......you need that fine tuned point of 1.9V on the gains to hit 692W......1.8 will overdrive the woofer by almost 80W!

It would be extrmemly hard to find that sweet spot with just an ear and a screwdriver. That's why it is usually recommended to choose an amp that is matched to the speaker's RMS.
