ASWA Approved

Does anyone know why the 211 is ASWA class 3 slalom approved and the Tige 22 isn't?

Didn't you learn anything from the PlanetNautique site? It's the wake!

Seriously, my guess is that no one from Tige thought it was worth the bother to have a wakeboard boat certified for slalom.

That might have something to do with the 211 have a slightly better slalom wake. I test drove the 211 and was very impressed with the slalom wake, more so than my previous boat (Tige 22V). The 211 wake is better at a greater variety of line lengths. I found that the 22V was only good at 15 off.

And more generally, you could not give me a Tige. Literally, I have had this conversation with my wife. In this theoretical la-la land, if someone offered me a free Tige 22 outright but forced a clause into it that said I had to use it and ride behind it an appreciable amount of water time, had to practice my tournament pass behind it, and couldnt shirk out and just ride on our 2001 or SAN, I would say no thank you. I know of several pros destroying their Tiges in an effort to get a good wake out of it. I normally try to be pretty neutral, due to my Web sites and my work with wakeboarder.com, but Tige is the one manufacturer that I have no use for, whatsoever.

LOL, yeah, a boat's a boat. I'd still rather be out on the water than sitting on shore. There's a guy on WSR who's got a Capri 175. He's added a tower, ballast and is working on his stereo. From what I saw, that thing threw a pretty nice wake for a 17' boat.

THE GOOD
**the vinyl is good on the 2006’s. the 2007’s have AWESOME vinyl that feels almost like suede. I do question how durable and how stain/dirt resistant it will be.
**I am a fan of a huge sun deck (more place for women to bask in the sun), but the Tige’s deck is growing on me. The extra storage in the back (similar to the 236 crossover) is of no use, but it makes a nice place to sit when you are chilling. The walkthrough is a waste on all boats in my opinion. I do like the lip/curl on the transom. The design (at the expense of storage space in the rear lockers) is awesome as it keeps surf rollers from coming over the transom.
**right next to Calabria, Tige has the biggest platforms in the business. Big kudos.
**the new dash on the 22ve is very nice compared to the older models that pointed skyward.
**the wake on the 22ve is very nice. It is a definite improvement over the 22v. it is very rampy with no additionally weight. Add some weight aft and it does start to peak nicely. Load it down like crazy and it will get very big.
**surf wake is what you would expect out of a 102” wide boat: big and nice!
**the upgraded stereo sounds very nice.

THE OBJECTIONABLE
**the boat is big. 22' long by 102" wide. for being a 22' boat, you sure dont feel like you are in a vessel that big. There is a lot of length that is wasted by fiberglass both fore and aft that yields no additionally functionality. While it is deeper, the cockpit feels no bigger than an older model Malibu VLX. But then again, I am spoiled by a 21’ Calabria ProV that feels like a 24’ boat.
**the ballast system is a complete afterthought. It is a four-tank unit, all tanks above the floor. The tank that sits under the observer seat is a colossal disaster. It almost completely blocks access to that vast storage space.
**the steering is EXTREMELY light. I know this is personal preference, but if I wasn’t concentrating on holding a strait line, then it was next to impossible to keep the wheel form floating from side to side. Every time I looked in the mirror, I noticed that my prop wash was zigzagging. Even the tige sales rep made comment of it being too sensitive.
**the speed control is retarded. It works off of a guestimation. You get the rider up to “speed” then you hit the “set” button. Then you press the up or down button to increase or decrease the speed. I guess having learned on perfect pass, this system just seems like it as not as user friendly. if it aint broke, dont fix it.
**the rubber bungee cords they use on their board racks are a joke. The stretch and then they break. Also, each rack has worked itself loose on the water. Nothing like busting out the allen wrenches to make them useable again.
**the cup holders in the cockpit are on the floor rather than along the gunnels. While this may seem like splitting hairs, it allows cups/cans/drinks to get kicked and spilled. It is an inconvenience to bend down to the cup holders rather than having them at user height. On every other boat I have been in, cup holders double as watch/phone/jewelry/wallet holders. On the Tige, it places those items on the floor in a foots path and allows wet bathing suits, life jackets, and rain to soak them.

OK, where is the 'fair & Balance'. lets see a 'cross the board' comparison of the same areas on a like model from the CC stable?

I have not found this on my 22Ve. it's amazing how much 'crap' I have found room for. the tree transom storage wells have been used as rope/glove storage to a cooler and trash can. The walk-through of the 211 eats up a lot of potential storage.

Computers don't 'guestimate'. It works as simple as cruise control has worked in cars since the 70's

When you are used to having only 1/2 the storage as the211 crossover does, well duh!

Fair and Balanced

The Fair and balanced is that he gave his opinions on what he liked and disliked which were about equal. You may disagree with him but he can't say he wasn't fair and balanced. Actually you can say it but it's not true!

I think he makes some valid points in both sections. We all know the issues with the board racks, he is dead on about the cup holders (come on Tige, please figure that one out), above floor tanks for a ballast system suck, newer dashes are an improvement over the older "skyward" dashes and the Ve transom works very well, even if he hasn't figured out how much stuff he can put in a Tige vs. a Tweek. These are after all just opions from a non-Tige owner, just someone who at least has enough sense to shop them out when considering a new boat. The Tweeks are a solid boat, I just don't care for they way are designed, small boats for small people.

BTW, don't you have to be over 6' to own a tige? I though I read that somewhere

My guess is the 102" beam on the tige contributes to the AWSA issue.

If the Auther was an editor giving his evaluation of a new model, he would be 'fair and balanced'. But he is an owner of a competitors brand, pointing out negatives (about Tige) on his brand's web site. Yes, he did point out both pros and cons.

IMO, If you're going to tell me my boat sucks, than tell me what is better about your boat.

Apples to apples, that's all I'm asking.

Fair and Balanced....I like my boat better than yours because it's my boat Bottom line is that people have preferences in just about every aspect of a boat and critique boats based on those preferences. One element of a boat may be the selling point for them and the thing that drives another buyer away. My preference is for the CC220 because of the layout, wake, keyless ignition, etc. I think the 220 wake is superior to my Tige 22V wake. Important words in that last statement are "I think". I could go into all of the little details, but it really doesn't matter to anyone but me and my family. Enjoy what you have.
