    Ronix Wake Surf Shaper

    I know this has been talked about along with all sorts of other DIY solutions, however its now available and I'm curious on your thoughts. I personally hate the price for what it is and im not that big on putting Velcro all over my boat. But if it can clean up my wake, allow me to run even ballast and make switching sides take only seconds, it may be worth the $600 price tag. Thoughts?

    I'm curious about some real world opinions on this...

    I'm leaning towards mocking up my own 'clamp-on' solution to the swim deck. If that thing can be held on with velcro, certainly I can come up with something simpler and less expensive.

      Whilst in the past the gate designs had been replicated with considerable more thought and effort, this fairly simple design can be replicated much easier I believe, and I reckon this will open the flood gates to home made solutions at a fraction of the cost. Also is attached to a more solid part of the hull rather than platforms etc

          I've followed a few threads on the skate board ramp version. So much so that I bought one ramp and then saw that this guy improved it by using two.

          A few concerns I have with this option.

          1. The ramps have a bit of a curve to them and they may not sit flat against the boat. I've got one of the ramps I just need to test for it.

          3. Weight of the two ramps. I am predicting it's gonna be heavier then the Ronix and I wonder what kind of staying power it will have.

          2. Attaching two jerry rigged skate board ramps to my boat. But on the other hand if it works, I may bend a little.

            I think ragboy did a write up on this a while back when it was a prototype. I think it might be here or on Wake9.com

              Just my .02... I have built my own device, and several for friends, along the lines of a gate setup easily strapped to the swim deck (Way less than 1 minute on/off). Cost is so low it is negligible If you would like to build one along the lines of the Ronix all you would need is a block of closed cell foam and some heavy duty velcro tape. I could see the velcro as possibly being the downfall of this design in the long run. However, it seems most of the force would actually push the block into the hull so longevity may not be an issue. Time will tell. The Ronix design is wonderful in its simplicity... easy to apply to many hull shapes with no modifications while the gate type requires a more custom fit to the hull profile. Either way, the delayed convergence idea works very well and I would recommend it to anyone.
