I was sold on one, but then have been reading a lot of bad reviews on its surf wake and Tige quality in general.....

wanted to see if it was just disgruntled haters

There are a couple owners that post on here occasionally. Seems they love the wakeboard wake. The surf wave has been very much improved with the AVX - without AVX it looks pretty ugly. But even with AVX, the surf wave is not as adjustable as the Z3 wave. From a wake/wave performance standpoint, the ASR is a wakeboard boat first.

Give a little time and hopefully and ASR owner can give some input.

We have heard mostly what Dingle said here on the forum, but I think I will be one of the few who have real world experience with it. Loud Electronics has posted that he thought the surf wave was down right spectacular, but that seemed to be in disagreement with what some others on this forum have said. I get the feeling that my new best friend will not be the type of guy that works totally hard to dial it in. I think that most owners want it that way, flip a few switches and ride. If it gets too complicated, it may scare some buyers.

Quality is subjective, all boats have quality issues, it's how your dealer handles them.... As for the surf wave, it really needs to be dialled in... I rented one last year and was so un-impressed, left me wondering why in tarnation would anybody pay this much for a boat, when for 40k less, you could have a boat that is dialled in from the factory...... Tige has boats, nautique has boats, Centurion has boats etc... So have you already bought the boat?

Yes, I live right nearby. Imagine my surprise when I go driving down the street and spot that beauty sitting in front of their home! Luckily, nobody was behind me as I hit the brakes to take a closer look

I used one last fall for the weekend. I really enjoyed this boat and would consider one to buy.

First and foremost it is the best handling boat I have every driven in the vdrive market. Even loaded with full ballast. The wakeboard wake is also the best I have seen to date (comparing to xstar or G25).

There are a pile of myths on the surf wake. It was actually one of the best surf wakes I have ridden yet. It was so powerful not just along the wake but even into the flats you could ride. It moved a ton of water. The key was weighting correctly and depth. It was very sensitive to lake depth. If your lake is not more than 17ft deep it would not work well. I used it with the VX and with out. I actually preferred the wake with out the vx. I think the AVX would be a different story though as I felt the angle needed to be different on the stock fixed vx.

The boat is a contender for sure based on the performance, wake and drivability. Where it fell short was on fit and finish I feel. It was not a boat to be priced in the G23 category. It needed to be priced in the axis category. There was no wind damn for the walk through, cup holders were flimsy in the back rest. No adjustable seating like its competitors. plain interior that I felt my Z3 outshined at much less price. Dash was an afterthought. There were some great things about the interior though like the space that resembled the space I used to have in my 24V, very deep seating and lots of storage space with no carpet to stink up.

I think if you get a good deal on one it is a great buy. But if it has to compete with some of the boats it is trying to resemble there is more bang for the buck elsewhere.

Thanks for the input. I was pretty sold on it, but for what kind of money I don't want to hear that Tige's cheaper model can do anything better than the ASR.
The part that bothers me the most is how close they are in price to the G23, yet are not as good of a boat.

If it was 15-20k cheaper it would make more sense

I would not say not as good of a boat. The Wakeboard wake is better imo. The surf wake is bigger and more push as well. The ASR is also a smoother ride and better handling. Those things are more important to some people.

I would go look at one fore sure and don't write it off till you get it on the water and you will see. The touch screen on the asr is also more functional and easier to use than the nautique system. So there are some things that stand out between the two. Plus tige changed the interior a bit in 2015 from the 2014 that I used. So if you can get a good deal on one for 10 k less than a G it is a solid buy.

Hey Loud, did you try out the starboard, i.e. goofy, side? That was one of the big criticisms that I heard of the 2014 ASR - haven't heard anything about the 2015. One of my daughters rides goofy so that is an important capability for us. We demoed one last year (I posted about it and it turned into quite the thread) and was surprised it didn't seem to have as smooth of a ride as our 24V, especially in chop.

Yes I have a pile of pics I can post. The goofy wake was fine with the VX. Never did try it with out though. When we tried the goofy wake we were also contending with hurricane winds so it was not much fun. The goofy wake we tried first because everyone seemed to complain about it the most and I found it the easiest to dial in.

Here some of the goofy. It was crazy windy and huge chop we had to fight through.

Key is setup on this boat. Just like any other. Was out on a g25 this past weekend and it was no different. Needed more weight and placement was critical.

I believe we needed to add more bow weight and actually remove some from back corner. Also very little list as it does not take list very well with out washing wake out.

My old 24v was one of the best handling boats I have ever driven. However I felt the asr handled better and even took the chop really well. It really shined when fully loaded with ballast. So nice to drive and no hunting for speed and could still turn on a dime.

Also note these pics were taken in 15 feet of water. It was only decent useable water that day from the wind storm. Can see the spray coming off wake on bottom pic to get an idea.

Did you have to use extra ballast bags or were you able to dial it in with the factory ballast?
