If the running surface is the same, does anybody know why the 22VE hull takes more list than the RZ2 hull? Is that only the case with the 24VE?

EWOK - How did you mount the flag on the back of the boat? Is there a slot for it, or did you rig something? Not sure where to put mine on the new boat.

Some complain that it's too weight sensitive side to side but that makes it easier to dial in the wave.

And if people love their RZ2 as much as I do, it's shouldn't be hard to find one in pristine condition, it just might be tough to find one in pristine condition for sale.

Sorry - Looks like a few of my questions were answered already!

@Ewok - did you ever consider adding the Convex VX?

Thanks to everyone for the advice and feedback so quickly! Unfortunately, while figuring out the details I also figured out that my marina cannot support a full 24' boat with dry dock (in/out service) storage during the summer. Since I keep the boat at the lake, not on the trailer or in the water I want to make sure I can still use the service. The benefit of that deal falling through is that it will allow me some time to figure out a very specific year/model I'd like.

For all boats: I want to make sure that I get the Alpha Z tower if at all possible. In addition I really need to keep the capacity above 12 people, ideally at least 14 people. Anything else that is a "must have" option?

    Regarding VE boats:
    - It seems like I could potentially find a 22ve' for a reasonable deal with lower hours that an RZ2. In general, do people find that the 22ve competitive with the RZ2 for surfing?

    Regarding RZ2:
    - I'm leaning more and more this directly. Feedback on surfing is very positive. The only negative is that they're pretty pricey, and the 2009/2010 with the Alpha Z and no Tige'Touch seem very rare, thus driving the price up even higher. I'm really concerned that a 2007/2008 won't feel like a "new" boat because the tower will be an old style (the wife needs to be happy with the "newness" of this monster purchase as well). Also, should I be concerned with the swim platform on pre-2008 models interfering with the surf wave? Any feedback on reasonable

    Regarding newer models - Z1:
    - I like the idea of the newer Z1 because they'll seat 14, making them competitive with the RZ2, but at a foot shorter it's a more manageable size. Has anyone surfed or have video/pictures of a Z1 with Convex VX? If no, any idea of how much it improved the surf wave on the 2013/2014 boats? My impression is that it would get you to approximately the size of the Z3 but with a shorter length. Obviously the Z3 is the benchmark. I think I could stomach a bit more money if I could get a newer boat, even it if had quite a few hours for something in only 2 seasons.

    Regarding ConvexVX in General:
    - Should I be targeting a boat that had this as a factory option or a retrofit?

Thanks to everyone for the support!

I count myself among those considering a 2009 RZ2 as a "sweet spot". I really like NOT having Tige Touch. 2009 have Alpha Z tower (easy to upgrade to WS Rev10), big lockers for custom bags, good vinyl, quiet PCM engines. Super easy to mount a surf flap. Its flexibility and surf wave have kept us off the upgrade cycle for six, going on seven, seasons.

    Finding a pristine 2009 RZ2 might be tough ...

We have a 2009 24Ve with what we call "Ultra Ballast". There's a thread on here with lots of data and photos on what we did and how we did it. The resulting wave looks like this and gets gasps from passengers when they first see it:

We also have a close friend with a 2009 RZ2, and it too puts out a great wave. Either model will make you happy.

Congratulations on your new boat....pictures....I hope you will be very happy...pictures....The 22Ve and the RZ2 should be comparable...pictures...with the key difference being that I have heard the swim platform of the RZ has a somewhat negative effect on the wake....pictures...I think you will find much on this site about swim platform.
Have you thought about posting some pictures?

My dealer in central WI took my 08 RZ2 on trade. I think he still has it.

From what I understand, the Ve boats need more list than the RZ or Z boats. But others would have to verify. Regardless, any of them will make a killer wave.

When I compared the RZ to the Z, I found that the seating in the newer Z boats was deeper. So if that is a factor, you might want to check them out. I think they are still better than the competition though.

My Z1 doesn't feel as big on the inside as other brands. That's always been my biggest drawback to Tige. The interiors are very nice, but not overly spacious. You need to get up to the Z3 to really spread out.
