Centurion Announces new Quick Surf System

Just like to do a survey , what is everybodys average time to change out riders when surfing , and how many surf on port and then starboard , it ussually takes us 15min and we run all those that want on the one side and then switch ballast to the other in the time it takes to switch out the rider ?

Takes me about 10min to switch side, I'm regular and my wife is goofy. In early spring and fall we are in wetsuits up here so the time to switch is about how long it takes her to get her wetsuit on, give the kids some Cheetos and red Gatorade and jump in the water.

I agree with Mike. Some people like surf systems ,others like to surf. Some people are in a rush to switch from side to side. I surf both sides and surf with whoever is out with us. To me surfing is for fun. I'm not in a rush when I'm on a boat. Just my 2 cents.

This... we are never in a hurry for anything when on the water and the time to switch sides gives time to enjoy a beer, take a swim, or shoot the breeze...surfing is a side benefit of spending time with friends/family.

This reminds me of the "our boats do not require ballast with our convex hull and taps."

Sooner or later I would have to think that Tige is going to start losing market share to the companies that cater to the masses.

At least offer it as an option. Maybe with the AVX it is not available or maybe it is an addition to the AVX. However they package it leave it to the customer to make the decision.

Ok, those oversized shaped trim tabs can't be real safe with a small swim platform like that. Just saying. It screams "rip the skin off my body" entering or exiting the water if I forget to go straight off the back...

I love our heavily listed 2009 RZ2.

But if I was buying a boat now, it would have to have a quick switch surf system (and ideally rock out a heavy listed wave too). A day on a G23 (stock even weighted) changed my mind fast--my wife was super comfortable and relaxed driving , which made me enjoy when I got to surf ALOT more. I hope our next boat is a Tige ...

And what boats with "surf systems" have you been in, that actually ride flat? Seems even with these "evenly weighted" surf system boats, owners are loading them with 800+ in each rear locker on top of the factory. This means even weighted port to STBD, but far form evenly weighted forward to aft. From a captains standpoint, i'll take listed over bow hi.

Hmmm fancy trim tabs is all I'm seeing! They've been selling these for years for most I/O's. I guess because the tab shape makes it special same with Supra's trim tabs. So when's the six figure boat craze gonna stop?

From what it looks like to me--there is nothing fundamental changing about these boats. They are simply adding unique dual tab or delayed convergence systems to otherwise the same hull. I would suspect that there will be some retrofit kits available at some time in the not too distant future, or perhaps reverse engineered universal kits that come close. Then all of us who refuse to buy the high dollar machines can have a more level surf system type boat as well.

Maybe I am wrong? Then if you have a boat load of rapidly switching riders you can use your fancy tabs, of if you really want to surf, you can list her over and do it right.

I agree that most boats don't "need" the systems to produce a nice wave. A listed boat produces as good a wave as a surf system boat and in some cases better. Problem is unless you have a super custom "mnpracing" ballast system with 8 cross overs(I kid Mike) it takes considerable time to switch sides. We all wish it was as easy as all the regulars surf and then all the goofy's, but often it doesn't work that way. Or people like me that have a cabin that do 2-3 sets a day. It can you have to setting up the boat many times during the day. It takes a lot of time to switch which is the draw of these systems. Fill the ballast and use the system to determine sides. Switches faster than riders can.

I've said this exact thing before and I will say it again so no one has to search, LOL!! Tige's produce a world class wave as good as anything out there when properly weighted and thats usually heavy. They don't need a surf system to produce a nice wave. But the fact that now every other manufacturer(I believe) has a side to side switchable system makes them now "need" a system. Without it they can't be competitive and will lose market share, IMO. Like Dandy said people in general don't like a heavy listed boat, especially most of our wives. We did it for years as that was how you built a good wave. Now you don't have to and pretty much everyone I know would rather ride flat now that the technology to do that is there.

I guess that leaves Tige as the lone ranger without a true surf system. Side to side system anyway. Maybe they will hold suit with the AVX just coming out this season. Maybe the will get after a side to side tab type system.

Or maybe they will say all the other manufacturers are wrong and you don't need a side to side tab based system to have the best wave. Like they didn't need any ballast, just TAPS to have the biggest wake back in the 90's!!! LOL

These boats(and surf systems) are as bad as computers and cell phones. Buy one today and within a couple months its outdated. Makes it hard to justify buying a new boat with things changing so fast.

The reality is that the best wave really doesn't come from boats with a surf system and that they do come from a listed boat. That said, the market is pushing for the quick change with level boats and some manufacturers are chasing the sales by engineering - or copying - a system that the clients want to purchase. Centurion has put out a killer wave for years, but with ALOT of list to the point where it makes some people, my family included, uncomfortable. Does Tige (or many of the others) need a surf system to put out a killer wave? I think we all know the answer is NO. Will they most likely lose market share without a surf system? I think the answer is YES! I wouldn't be surprised if Supreme becomes something to contend with...Fineline build quality (some of the nicest glass work out there IMO), quick fill, surf system all without the high technology and costs associated with the other brands.

I realize that I am defending the listed boats, even though I now have a surf system boat. The funny thing is that we were comparing Nautique and Centurion and one reason that we leaned heavy towards Nautique was that we didn't have to lean (see what I did there ) I think this is a good example of why Centurion has brought a surf system, to gain some market share back that they may have been losing to competition.
