Do you have any techniques on actual pumping ? We are teaching ourselves everything going through videos as we don't know anyone else with a boat and this being our first all our friends are learning with us.

My best advice for a newbie learning to pump, is to go a buy a Ripstick. Practice on that at home, and then use the same motion when you are pumping your surfboard. As you get better, you'll realize you need to do more/different motions depending on where you are in the wave, but this will get you going in the right direction from a progression standpoint.
