I don't think there needs to be hours/days/weeks of testing to figure out the surf wake on the starboard side. It exists on the port side. The hull should be a mirror image on each side, only thing being different is prop rotation and whats above the water line.

Could there be something different in the hull from the port to starboard? i.e. Toyota's Epic demise.

I agree with Wicked, something needs to be added/fixed/taken away to correct this issue..... e.g. early production Z3s.

When I was at the boat show last winter I bumped into Mr. F while looking at the ASR. I asked him how the surf wave was, he replied, "well, it needs some work". So obviously Tige' is aware of the issue and would probably be working on something to fix it.

On the other hand... while I was still standing around the ASR, another looker asked Mr. F the same question, this time his reply was: "Amazing!" So....

In Engineering, everything is a tradeoff. You optimize for one thing, you sacrifice in another. "Jacks of all trades" that try to be everything often do a modest job of everything, without being the best at any of them. It's all a compromise. You cannot have Ferarri performance and still have a 10 cubic yard dump truck bed on the back... they are two vehicles meant for two different jobs.

My guess is that Tige dedicated the Z3 to being their surf-specific boat, willingly sacrificing its symmetrical wake performance (i.e. wakeboarding) to get there. And the ASR is exactly the opposite: They likely tuned it to be their wakeboard-specific boat, knowingly and willingly sacrificing its asymmetrical wake performance (i.e. wakesurfing) to get it.

Each of these boats has been optimized to do a job, and to get the specific performance in that task their performance in another has been compromised. That is not (necessarily) a mistake - it could have been, and probably was, an intentional design decision. You want Tige's very best symmetrical wake? Buy their ASR. You want Tige's very best asymmetrical wake? Buy their Z3. You want an all-around boat that does everything pretty well, but isn't the very best at either? They have solutions for that too.

If I'm right, we'll never see an "awesome" ASR surfing wake. That wasn't what the boat was designed to do, and it's possible no amount of ballasting will achieve what the Z3 (for example) delivers effortlessly.

There is a surf locker because you can surf the port side just fine. Not everyone surfs. I have ridden behind a G23 and it makes a awesome wave listed but a decent wave not listed. Neither wave is as long as my RZ2,but they have plenty of push in their length.The G23 i rode behind used 29 gallons of fuel in 3-1/2 to 4 hours of riding. Mostly surfing but some wake boarding.We had 4 people on the boat with me being the heaviest at 160 lbs.The owner now has a G21 so i guess that fuel usage bothered them too.

The 2015 ASR was refined to fix the surf issue by moving the ballast around, new taps design, VX design, but mostly moving ballast and offering Surf X.

We own a 2014 ASR and love the boat - all around - it's big, massive storage, versatile and a huge upgrade from our '09 RZ2 (we loved our RZ2 too). The wakeboarding wake/wave is big, clean and can be intimidating to beginner and even intermediate boarders. The surf wave needs work and to get a solid wave (for now) we've added an 1100# fat sac to the port side - this made a much more surfable wave with plenty of push. We have the CVX extension as well.

Our expectation is for a superior surf wave including the ability to double-surf (preferably without a fat sac) and the wave is simply not there yet. We are expecting recommendations from Tige, potentially a new CVX design... and it feels like the boat needs more weight up-front to maximize the Tige convex hull design and wave size & shape. We all board/surf regular so we haven't even tried to get a starboard side wave for switch/goofy riding.

We are picklefork fans and the bow of the ASR is very comfortable, functional and versitale. It handles rough water reasonably well but if really windy/wavey you can get a little wet from some splash - but that should be expected on a boat.

For those considering the ASR, we love almost everything about this boat and expect along with Tige & our great dealer we'll get the surf wave dialed. I see the resemblence to the G and some will say the G is better, fit & finish, etc. frankly we didn't see that but to each their own. We love boating and don't bash other boats... we have friends with various brands (Mastercraft, Moomba, Malibu, etc.) and we like trying different boats, set-ups, boards, etc. All good on the water!

For those considering the ASR, we love almost everything about this boat and expect along with Tige & our great dealer we'll get the surf wave dialed.

You would be hard pressed to find better service than from your metro MN Tige dealer! Great group down there....looks like they lost their pro-rider "salesperson" to a competitive brand.

The removed the bow storage compartments and just slid the bags forward. They are working/tweaking the VX design to help with the goofy side wave as well as working on a taps plate. The surf x is true surf ballast set up replaces the rear bags with larger ones. The rear bags will be larger than the ones offered on the Z3/Rz4 surf x by a few hundred pounds.

Gotta pick better surf music Wave looks good, I know they have good push. I just don't like the shape of the wave. Not as much fun, my buddy has been dialing it in all summer. I think he prefers 750's in each locker.

On a side note, people can surf his wave well. I mean newbies etc.... The wave has so much push in the flats that people can chill out there. On my boat you can be in the flats and stay with the boat very easily.

I will probably do a gate on my boat. I have been desiging it. I will probably still prefer the even weight but it will be nice to try.

My wifes music, she was driving, not my choice LOL.The shape is not a steep but I find it so much funner than my Z3 was. Must be the height and push.
