    Ear protection to prevent ear perforation

    Does anyone use ear protection to prevent ear perforation (ear drum damage) from taking a face plant on the water when wake boarding ?

        we use a helmet just for this reason. oh and a few concussions. I have personally seen a blown ear drum due to wakeboard crash and it made me a believer in helmets. We haven't ever used the ear flaps though. I feel that as long as the helmet breaks the surface before your ear then ear drum damage is unlikely. Haven't seen one since.

                      I ruptured an eardrum on a fall a few years back. Since then, I sometimes use a helmet (with the ear flaps), but more often, I just use the silicon molded ear plugs. Something like this:
