As far as dropping parts and tools in the water, you just need to provide something for the parts or tools to fall onto.

In shallow water put a large towel on the lake bottom under the prop and put rocks on the corners to keep it from moving.

In deep water tie ropes to the corners of the towel and hang from either side of boat, put a rock or weight in the center of the towel to keep below the boat and prop.

This topic came up a little while ago with my buddies dad and he said just tie a rope to all the parts that are expensive and have lots of spares of the ones that aren't (cotter pins).

also, keep in mind things like hairpins or paperclips can be fabricated into cotter pins if you're in a bind.

These devices would be great ideas for tall building fire escape as well!

All dive shops shouold ask for certification when refilling or selling air tanks. That is they should, I have picked up tanks for weekend dives and only get checked for cert card about half the time. You should be trained on how to use this equipment, but you are only going to be a few feet down and it's pretty basic at that depth, breath! I have thought about buying a spair air for diving, but this is one more reason. You guys sure now how to help a guy spend his money, Thanks.

If you take the swim step off and have really long arms, you might be able to do it.

This would only work for you and me, tall.

Good thinking. Come to think of it, those lead boots and diving bell would make good ballast while you're not using them!

my 86, you brought this thread back from the dead!

Underwater prop change...do-able, but not so fun. Rope around the prop shaft....not fun at all, especially for the rope.

Plus now I get the visual of Dog roaming around on the lake bed in his diving bell and lead boots, his boat 200' above him, looking for a cotter pin.
