Tundra vs Tahoe towing

My 4.7L Grand Cherokee has towed a Four Winds 190 Horizon, a Tige20V and a MC Maristar Sport for well over 20k miles over a ten year span. It has a tow capacity of 6700lbs. Going up long grades it could easily pull the Tige and Maristar at 65-70 mph when in tow mode. We used the Jeep for many single day trips and at various lakes launched and retrieved on un-improved mud and gravel ramps when normal ramps were underwater. It towed easily at 70-75mph. For short trips we preferred it over our Tahoe and a Ford Expedition. We prefered the Tahoe over the Ford. On long trips with family and 3 dogs the Tahoe never had a problem with the load and with the space it was comfortable to ride in for 10+ hours. Of course a Diesel or Dodge extended cab with a V10 win hands down for power. Since we use the Jeep and Tahoe as daily vehicles they perform well towing and regular daily use. Before the Jeep we had a 99 Durango which had no problem with the load but the ride was terrible with the stiff rear end. Like boats everyone has different needs and preferences.Last edited by MoneyPity; 08-07-2012, 04:43 PM.

Not sure who you have replace injectors at $9,000 each... or what 250,000km is... but I'd find a new diesel mechanic, or maybe I charge waty too little!!!Originally posted by loudelectronics View Post...And replacing fuel injectors on the new diesels at 9 grand a pop every 250000km is not so much fun either. I can replace a lot of gas motors for that price wich last a very long time.

I believe in recent year GM went from the 3.73 to the 3.4 gear ratio but kept the tow weight the same. I had a yukon with with 3.73 and it pulled strong. 3.73 are very good all around gears and its a real shame GM went away from them. You can change the geaars to 3.73 and will see a difference. That way you do not need to purchace another vehicle. The higher the number the easier to tow, however the gas mileage goes down.
