In case there is any offence to the term "fag" to anyone other than nobody, let me explain. The term "fag" was once a derogatory term used toward homosexuals. In my life experiences, acronyms became quite popular in American slang in the 80s. MILF was the first one I remember being really popular. Around the same time, the gay community was gaining a lot of acceptance in the general community. A gay man could be gay and he was just another person in the eyes of the general public. Ha, 80s reference! General Public. Anyways, a bunch of us were hanging out one night, gettin our buzz on. I'm not sure how it came up but, a friend, who happened to be gay, was talking about a certain annoying guy we all new.

"That guy is F'n annoying. F-A-G. F'n annoying guy. I'm not a fag, I'm just gay."

We all got a good laugh out of that and from that point on and, for me at least, it has been the very definition of a fag. I think a lot of people might have gotten the wrong impression about that at first with that post. Relax.

To expand on that point, I'd also like to know why when gay was labeled the term for homosexuality, why did I get a new label as well? "Straight" ?

Good question. Maybe it was just accepted by the gay community because it suits them. It sounds a lot better than homosexual or homo IMO. I'm not sure of its exact origins though.

FYI, "faggot" is the German name for the double reed woodwind instrument we call a bassoon. This usage predates all of the other slang usages mentioned in this thread, so I consider it the proper definition. Everything else is just nonsense.

One who plays a bassoon is also sometimes referred to by this term.
