Silly Anchoring Question

I'd be very careful about reversing until the buddy is tight. If you didn't set it correctly, the anchor may drag and you end up backing into shallow water / rocks.. and damage the prop. When i do it, I sit on the back with my feet on the swin deck and tug the shoreline to stretch the buddy. That way, the boat isn't running or in gear if I bump shallow obstacles. So this monkey walks into a bar...

should've prefaced with the fact that I use a box anchor. Never ever had a problem with it setting.Originally posted by bigdaddy_houseboater View PostI'd be very careful about reversing until the buddy is tight. I would be careful about using an anchor buddy on the River. I used one at Havasu when I first started. It worked really well for a while, but I found it hard to use in big winds like you get on the River/Havasu. Maybe it was because of my 10-foot bimini, but strong winds would push the boat around too much with the anchor buddy. I couldn't seem to get enough stretch in it to avoid this (at some point, if you stretch it too much during anchoring, you defeat the purpose).Originally posted by The Black Widow View PostAll great suggestions. Thank you so much for responding.
One other question, have any of you used the anchor buddy? Are the waves that may come in on a windy day powerful enough to push the boat to shore or does it pretty much hold the boat in place?

First trip out with the new system and it worked great! The box anchor help the boat perfectly and having the anchor buddy was very convenient. There was not much wind so will have to report back when it is less than ideal conditions out there.
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions. It was so hot out there that nobody had a problem jumping in the water to carry the gear to shore!
