Dry suits

I have seen some older discussions re dry suit recommendations but nothing current. We pick up our Z3 (Thanks for the stock ballast guidance Ragboy) on 2 May in MN and want to start using it right way. Anybody bought a reasonably priced dry suit recently that they would recommend for wake surfing?

@ Nobody - sorry, but at a 76 degree water temp minumum, best you leave your advice to ballast, sunscreen etc

There's a brand by sierra designs or something of that sort that is pretty good for less than $300, or there used to be.

I have an NRS Extreme Relief Drysuit that I love. NRS is just south of us, so if I need repairs the turn around time is really fast.

I like the booties attatched for Hydrofoiling, but for surfing and wakeboarding you probably want to go without booties.

I just put my wife in an Ocean Rodeo, and she was completely dry. Water temp of 43.3 deg in Oregon! She needs some gloves and a hood, but was warm enough with her under layers. Prices aren't too bad depending on what options.

Mine is awesome, and I would have a hard time considering another, unless it saved considerable money.

But I do take water down the neck on a regular basis when I take a faceplant. But I have an unusual body type. I prefer the trickle down the neck than the alternative of feeling my veins in my head bursting.

My buddy once brought his down syndrome brother with us for a Thanksgiving run. We tried to get him up on a wakeboard, and it would have been awesome to have what I think would be the first down syndrome wakeboarder. But he was unable to get up. Down folks have big necks, and this guy was big anyway, being roughly 6'2" and 250 pounds, so by the time we gave up on him getting up, I was sure he was going to blow an aneurysm, face was bright red and veins poking out everywhere. Fortunately, it was my buddy's drysuit.

Get a high end wetsuit like a 4/3 O'Neil psycho 2. It will feel better and keep you warmer. They have dry tech so you actually don't feel wet. Mine fits like a glove and doesn't hinder my movements like a drysuit. Just some food for thought.

The Oneill boost is really nice for a drysuit. It has a neoprene neck which is much more comfortable. Most brands have a rubber neck which isnt as comfortable and can tear easier.
Plus, the suspenders inside make it fit much better.

This is what I have as well. Used it in low 50s water and have been totally fine.

I have a bunch of drysuits. Here are my observations

High end wetsuits....really nice unless it's really cold. Kind of a pain to strip off layers to get in and out of them. Also a bit chilly when sharing. My wife uses one all summer long in WA state but goes to the drysuit in the fall.

Kokatat....best drysuit bar none. Has a pee zipper. Have worn mine for several hrs without any sweat buildup, etc. Love it

Oneil boost....similar to kokatat but with neoprene neck. Most people get a little wet with it. Some get really wet. Best for those who won't go in head first

Adrenaline suits....great for value. I have 4 for my kids. This is what I would get for kids, guests etc. Not a bad suit...just not something I would wear all day

Bare...similar to the adrenaline suit. Feels like a little heavier grade fabric. I don't get wet in this one but my bore did once.

Overall prefer the baggy suits to anything tight any day of the week. I actually wear the same thing on the boat that I do on the mountain. A nice insulated set of ski pants makes everything so much better.

Thanks everyone for their input. For various reasons I went with the barefoot int'l earlier in the week because I need to have delivery next Tuesday when I pick up my first incoard and first Tige (Z3) - not very excited!!! I will report back to the group on how it performs in the spring Minnesota water!!
