Sea Deck Material

Been considering replacing the carpet in my 2007 Ve and was wondering if anyone had used the sea deck material as a replacement. Saw some pictures of a Yamaha that was done and it looked pretty good.

I can't recall if someone has done it but I believe that Ragboy did it with gatorgrip or something similar to sea deck. It would be nice to have sea deck as a floor but not cheap.

I haven't looked at the actual cost yet but did call to see if they already had a template but they didn't. The smell from the carpet is pretty bad. Even with the vents on the cover it takes a while for the carpet to dry out. Have been putting two desiccant jars in the boat when I cover it and that has helped.

Another option is to have your carpet all converted to snap out. You could then snap it out and dry it away from the boat.

Check out Hydroturf. They sell primarily to jetskis and jetboats but have bulk material that you can cut to your own shape, or send them a template and they will cut for you. It is available with 3M pressure sensitive adhesive on the back. It works absolutely awesome. I installed several pieces on my last boat and prefer it WAAAAY over carpet, snap-in or not. It gives great grip and dries almost instantly. Looks great too, I always got positive comments on its appearance.

Its only the bow/walk-thru section that smells. Its the backing/bonding used and it stinks when its wet. Pull it out and let it hand to dry and it wont stink.

Hydroturf will break down in 2-3 years and then you'll be tracking little foam bits of whatever color you foam is. I had it on my swim platform and it was great new, it just didn't last. It never stained the vinyl, it was just an inconvenience to have to wipe down the vinyl anytime someone came into the boat from the swim platform. My boat was kept in the water and there was no cover on the seim platform, it never faded but it did get beat up by the TX sun something fierce. Maybe in more northern latitudes it would last a little longer. From what I've read, Seadeck lasts longer.

Maybe. I can only speak from my own experience. Remember when we pointed out our last boat, on our lake at our friend's house? I put a couple square yards of Hydroturf in it some ~6 years ago and it still looks as new as the day I installed it. I just drove the new owner around behind his (my old) boat so he could go water skiing last weekend and was checking things out. This is true even on the high-traffic swim deck and even with our dog's claws working it over. She's the reason I installed it in the passenger compartment, so she wouldn't keep slipping when I accelerated and decelerated.

As far as sun exposure goes, those first few years with the boat were 100F+ summers so LOTS of sun.

Not arguing, just replying to your comments. I would use Hydroturf again without hesitation, but as always YMMV.

Get it out in the hot sun for a few hours and that will probably help!
