20V vs. 22V

Just checking to see if there is any input regarding the 20V vs. 22V. Besides the obvious length difference, does anyone have experience with both of these boats? Input regarding wake (whether wakeboard or wakesurf), ride, any other comments.
I have an oppurtunity to trade in my 2004 20V for a 2006 22V, and was just hoping to get some feedback from you guys.

I would go with the 22V if you primarily wakeboard or wakesurf. However, you still need to add ballast to either boat for a big wake especially for wakesurfing. However, if you ski a fair bit, the 20V may be better.

Is your dealer giving you a good price for the 20V? I'm considering getting rid of my 2004 22V and getting a new Tige with the PCM or a Nautique. I would go with the PCM since they have a three year warranty for the engine and drive. I have a Mercruiser with a Walter drive and only a one year warranty. My drive went out after 16 months on the 12 month warranty and I may be shafted. Still trying to work things out. My next boat will have a PCM in it. Good luck.

Yes he is giving me a good price for trade in (almost what I paid for it), my 20V doesn't have many extras, the 22V is loaded however it will end up being about an additional $17K... trying to justify the additional cost. The only option it doesn't have is the factory ballast

If my dealer was willing to give me a trade like that, I would jump all over it. I think you can live without the ballast and put something like a Rival system in your boat. You will also enjoy all of the little extras. I say go for it.

If the wakeboard wake was bigger, it would be a no brainer... however my wife was able to surf behind it with just me and the dealer in the boat and no ballast. I'm taking my boat out after work to see if we can get a similiar surf wake without any people in it.

Does anybody have any comments regarding wake shape, size, etc.?

I typically ride behind my 22V with 600 pounds in the bow to firm up the wake and taps at around 5 or 6. That seems to keep the transition really nice and the top of the wake a bit steeper for more kick. Every now and again I will throw another 250 in each rear compartment. With that configuration, the wake is huge and can be a bit intimidating if you're not used to it.

Throw 600 pounds in the bow and 600 in one of the rear lockers and you have arguably one of the best wake surfing wakes out there. I love Tige for the wake surfing wakes. JUST GO WITH THE PCM so you don't have to worry about extending the pathetic one year warranty on the MerCruiser. Hope that helps.

A suggestion I might offer.... if you can swing it in your payment or cash.... when I priced them out, the 22V was exactly 3K cheaper than the 24V w/ my dealer. Not sure what your budget is, but I think it's worth it when it comes time for selling it.

At that price yeah $3K would be a go, however the $ difference at our dealer I believe was more like $10K.


I just talked with the guy at Rival Industry, and he says the same as my dealer... he says he rarely puts ballast systems in the Tige's. I'm not sure if the dealers are just programmed to say that or if that is just the industry standard? Then again at my age (37) do I really need to be getting any higher in the air As long as I can land my backroll every once in a while I will be happy

Me and my wife talked it over last night, and I think we will stick with the 20V for now and possibly add some ballast. The 22V just seems to be out of our price range The 22 would be nice because it had all of the extras, but can't justify spending an additional $18K to get the extras.

I'm in Oregon. Cornelius,, just 30 minutes from you. We're only 12 minutes from Hagg Lake so we get there about 3 times a week. Haven't had our Tige' at Newberg yet, it tends to get to busy to chance the drive. We like to put in the Willamette at the St. Johns bridge and cruise up town. We also like Prineville, Detroit, Merwin & Yale. We spent 7 days this summer at Owyhee, that was the best!

It's hard to justify going anywhere else but Newberg. We live 5 minutes from the ramp (which they just revamped 2 years ago.. very nice), and the water is almost always nice. Except in the afternoons on the weekend it is usually pretty calm. I wanted to go up to Haag Lake, but our son has gone there with friends and he says it gets pretty choppy. Maybe sometime we can link up, is there a way to exchange emails on here without the whole site seeing it? We sometimes have trouble getting enough people to go out.

Your son is right about it getting choppy at Hagg. You can find decent water early mornings until about 10:30- 11:00 and then it flattens out around 6:00 pm. The park/ramp closes at 8:30 or dusk. I understand about it being close to the Newberg ramp for you, it's the same for us at Hagg. When it's choppy we either just float over in the no wake zone or you can still surf if there isn't to many idiots out.
Did you buy your boat from Stayton Motor Sports? Have you met the family that has a Tige just down river from the ramp with the boat house? I don't remember thier names, nice people we met at the Stayton Motor Sports customer appreciation day last month at Detroit.
