I'm just trying to decide: do I invest on adding Taps system, weights, or both? From the amount of hours on the boat it's obvious I don't get to take it out often enough to justify major expense.

I'm also wondering if I should get a tall pylon versus a tower. Only reason I haven't bought one is I'm afraid the windshield may not open with guy wire.
My '95 didnt have taps... and my buddy's '97 did. Same hull.. same flat bottom hook. Taps made a minor difference. Weight made a HUGE difference. I took out the bottom rear seat cushion and put in one of these.

Was a pretty good wake. Sharp, but my kid could still flip his azz off on it.
We used a tall pylon, but if I had kept the boat, I would have gotten a tower.

Not totally true. Taps was a 1996 invention and was used on all hulls since then. It worked well even onthe older hulls, especially with weight. The hulls that were 21' and 22', it did fine with. Not so much with the 20's. The biggest slow-speed difference from the convex hull is the lack of spray pockets, which killed the peak on the wake. Also, 1997 and earlier SLM huls had a "hook" in the back that flattened the wake even further. We loved it for slalom.... but the 20's were worthless for wakeboarding. I tried with sacs, but the wake was so hard and sharp, it made for a pretty quick flip.

There is a big difference. Convex V hulls slope up in the back. The slm is a flat bottom. The slope up is what makes the Convex V settle in the water. The Taps plate is then used to shape the wake or to counteract the slope.

    1995

I have a 1995 fslm 2002 (teal and purple) that I purchased new. I think it was one of the first Texas boats since it has a TX serial number but is on a CA trailer (Hensley). After 16 years, only have about 150 hours on it . (we put 150 hours on previous boat in 1994.) A little sun fading on one side and a new carb are only indications of it's age.

Now looking to do some updating since only change from stock is bimini top. At one time, I considered adding TAPS system but was turned off by the $2,000 price quoted for parts. Does anyone recommend doing this or should I just add ballast sacs? I would now prefer spending the money to adding weight but don't want to spend this only to find I still need sacs?

Also thinking of adding a tower. Seems like Monster MT1 is popular and folds well? I am also considering Fly High Pro-X stainless steel tower but can't find any reviews on it.

I guess a 4 year old boat wouldn't have been considered "old" back when this thread was created...

    Here's my '99. Now 12 years old:

Alright...thats it...rain should be gone for a while. I'm taking off work early today, unpacking the boat and getting it ready.

    Is the hour meeter working?
I had over 250 hours on my boat the first summer we got it.
