Actually, my buddy Dave was the one that gave me the grand title of Dbag. Dave's not around much and we miss him. At one time Dave Dabell was lord and king for TigeOwners.com, but things have changed and it's just not the same anymore. Legend has it that Dabell found Jesus and spends most of his time at church...and this is a good thing. We love Dabell as much as we love new members like you.

That, my friend, is a TRADE UP! I say all boats are fun, some are just more fun.... but going from a 17' bowrider to an RZ2 is a moon shot. Just as awesome as it will be for you, it'll be equally great for all family/friends/kids who ride in it.

Another reverse steering trick:
As I back out of my slip--or off the trailer, the butt of the boat will drift towards 5pm. To turn around, turn wheel/helm left, nudge gearshift in/out of gear: to forward-then back to neutral-then to forward...and the the boat will start to spin counterclockwise in water. It like kissing/tapping the throttle in short increments and it'll turn. Practice in the open water and you'll get it. Little movements in/out of gear helps 'nudge' the boat when maneuvering at slow speeds.

You'll also love the no bow rise as you accelerate....and the extra room, comfort, swim platform, the stereo, and the power, and EVERYTHING else.

I use that trick all the time. I can turn my 20 foot boat inside a 25 foot area. Ok, maybe 30 feet. But still.

1st - great looking RZ! Here's to lots of quality time with the family.

2nd - how well does your little one do out on the boat...esp in our Texas heat? I've gotta 16mo old and she's been our biggest hesitation to finding something for the slip!

Chris - we started taking our kids out on our friends' boat (we didn't have one at the time) from when they were just a few months old. They always did well, even in the summer heat. We just kept them in the bimini shade as much as possible and would put damp cloth over them periodically (we used a very thin cloth, like a cheesecloth). When we stopped and floated, we would get them in the water with us - they loved to splash around. Don't forget a gentle sunblock on their skin. Between the noise and vibration from the engine and the rocking of the boat on the water, they would fall right asleep almost every time we were under power.

Just our experience - but we never had a problem with our kids on the water. Give it a try one day if you have a chance. Good luck!

Our kids grew up on the boat. They did fall asleep easily with the rocking of the boat and still love the water today at 26 and 24. Now that we have our first grandchild, she will get to go out on the boat July 4 at 9 months old. Already bought her life jacket!

Good info on the kido side. Since it's warming up nicely in Houston, we bought her a swimsuit w/ the "floaty" material built into the chest area. And this weekend we are taking her to the beach and pool to test it.

I grew up on the lake, so swiming was natural for me and I also swam competitively for 15 years. My wife is not a swimmer. At any rate, hopefully this weekend will go well and we'll be able to make a purchase soon! It kills me not having a boat at my disposal!
