i just put my boards in a board bag and store them in a spare bedroom.

Going back to the very first post... Old snow skis and waterskis were wood with a polyurethane coating. They were not very durable in varying humidity and temperature changes. So his father in law's skis were probably ruined in the attic, and he was not "misinformed". However, with new boards the information is probably irrelevant.

I could see if there was absolutely no wax at all on the skis/board but what are the chances of that?
