Impeller change. How do I get the seat box off?? 24Ve

Ok, trying my first impeller change on my '07 24Ve, and already having issues. How do I get the seat box off so that I can get access to the impeller? I've removed the back seat cushions, opened the round access hatch, and removed the nut that is directly below that. First, am I on the right track, and Second, what do I do now?

Any help would be great, as I'm trying to handle this tonight. Thanks in advance.

It is the Marine Power engine. I've looked at that thread, and also the one showing the step by step on how to replace the impeller, but I can't even get that far yet, since I can't figure out how to remove the back seat to get to it. There doesn't appear to be any screws to be able to remove the back seat, which seems to be necessary to get to the impeller. From what I can tell, the center seat needs to be removed completely in order to get to the impeller.

If I'm wrong, please someone explain the correct way to do this. If not, I would love someone to tell me how that center seat comes out.

Uh, you wont find the impeller housing by removing the seat box. It's on the front of the engine driven directly by the crankshaft.

Heh, whoops. So I should be able to get in and access that without removing anything, right?

maybe the backwall where the battery is might be handy to take off since it's a pain in the arse to get into that area on a 24Ve.

the impeller and housing are on the front of the engine which is facing the transom of your boat. There are are carpeted panels on the back wall of your storage lockers that can be removed to allow you to squeeze back there and change the impeller. Since the batteries are on the port side, I would try the starboard which only houses the TAPS pump and should give you a little more room to work.

Just in case you need to remove that seat box some other time, there are bolts on the ends of the box that hold it in as well as a carpeted strip on the floor. You can access the bolt head via the lockers if you need to get to them.

Another thing for you to consider is a impellar puller. I replaced mine along with a crankshaft ballancer swap, therefore requiring me to pull the whole housing off. I had a heck of a time getting the old one out. Wide open working on the swim platform with no tight constrained work position, it took a lot of work to get it out. 30 min soaking in PB Blaster, dykes, needle nose pliers and many more tools. If I would of had that much trouble with it while doing it in the boat, I'd still be working on it without a puller. I will have one for the next time.

It is a real pain to get it out with very little room. After working on it for about 45min and getting no where, we got some dish washing soap and put in the impeller housing and just kicked the engine over once or twice. It came out after that.
