    Battery advice?

We are leaving for our Norfork trip Saturday morning. Working on the boat yesterday and I wanted to check one of my ballast pumps. So I turned the key on and I have absolutely no power anywhere, not even a faded beep. I check the red battery on off switch and it was left on for probably the last six weeks. I have an On-Board Battery charger and I assume due to the recent barrage of storms outlet in the wall for my onboard charger was not working.

So I plugged my onboard charger into a different outlet and the charger is lit up.

Charged yesterday afternoon from about 3 o’clock till now, 16+ hours.

Went to turn on and check this morning and absolutely no power. I put a volt tester on the battery and both batteries were down around .2–.4

I would think that after 16 hours on the charger, it should have at least picked up some sort of charge?

I do not think the batteries are more than three years old. I disconnected the cranking battery from the charger and hooked up a regular charger to it.

Does it sound like my batteries are totally done for? Does it sound like there may be another issue somewhere else?

Sounds like it’s either your charger is bad, or the batteries are. I haven’t had great luck with boat batteries lasting more than a couple of years, so I buy them with good warranties, and get new ones every couple of years.

I’d put a meter on them with the charger running. Should be putting out somewhere in the high 13v range, maybe even 14v. If it’s charging, and they’re holding no voltage, it’s the batteries. If the charger is putting out little or no voltage, it’s likely the charger, or charger wiring.

      Thank you, Zack.
ended up buying 2 new batteries. Once we pulled them we realized they were 5 years old.

If you got 5 years, you got more life than I have out of a set. I switched to a nice AGM, and have had better luck. I don’t think the lead acid type like the vibration and movement a boat sees. Good luck with this set!
