    Check oil Level

I have what maybe a silly question. When checking the oil, should I bring the motor level or is it designed to read correctly when the boat itself is level?

I have a 5.7 marine power that's sitting at a fairly decent angle in the boat. They claim 5.5 quarts in the manual but I show a bit overfull on the dipstick after putting in 4 quarts with a full oil filter.

Floating level in the water, is the most accurate. However, if you know the level is correct prior to the oil change, then you need to monitor how much to remove, and replace with the same amount.

Did you remove all of the oil when you drained it?

I did, I only pulled 3.5 quarts out.

IF, you get ALL of the oil. 5 quarts will fill it up.
