Tall, which side of the bottom of your swim deck is the oiled side? I'm assuming the bare looking side is the Watco.

This spring I only used Watco, I sanded it and applied quite a few coats...maybe 5 or so. But it seems to be holding up great. I've only re applied a coat once. I think with teak its important to oil the deck lightly after every 3 outings or so.

How many coats are you applying during one redo? I have found that for a very bleached/dry deck, it take 3-5 coats over a few days before the teak stops soaking up the oil and begins to puddle.

Prep is also key. Use a good cleaner/bleacher and start with a good pressure washing.

tall - what is the little trapdoor for in your platform? Access to the wedge?

That is access to to a manual wedge, if you have one. Mine is the power wedge, but the teak decks have the access hatch in case you have one.

No, the left side is the Watco. You can see that it held up some of the shininess. It obviously needed more than one coating. I have only had time to use one coat whenever I have done this. You can tell my teak is bone dry on the right side.

I think the previous owner of my boat did not likely know what teak oil was. It was stored outside 4 months of the year, and taken to Havasu when it was used. Several more coats of oil and then some more watco and I will be in fat city.
