Now we are talking. This the Walter v-drive. the other is the Borg Warner transmission. Two separate pieces bolted together.

A popular upgrade to the 537 would be the 1433. A more aggressive upgrade would be the 2571

Price is based on the diameter and both are 14". To make the final choice, you need to take into account lake elevation, normal crew size and ballast, all around use, do you need to cruise for 30 minutes to your riding spot, etc. Also take into account how the current prop performed. The 1433 would be a good upgrade. The 2571 would be an aggressive upgrade as in stronger hole shot. This doesnt mean its the best, just more prop. The pros of the 1433 is better hole shot, better speed holding with little rise in WOT RPM and little loss of top speed compared to the 537. Cons, not as strong for those running tons of ballast and/or always have a big crew. Cons to the 2571 is loss of top speed and higher RPM. Pro, handles a ton of ballast and good for high elevation lakes.

Call ACME in the AM and run this all by them, they are the pros.

Thanks for all this info. I like the speed holding of the 1433, our perfect pass struggles to keep up but we run a lot of weight and now that we have a bigger boat we usually have 8 or so on the boat. Elevation at our normal lake is 3500 and our secondary lake is around 4000ft

Ouch! Glad nothing else was damaged. Been a member of that club since my second time out I would go with the more aggressive prop if you only surf and run a lot of ballast. I have a 1617 (14x13.75) and have been very happy with it so far.

I'd probably upgrade to the 1433 from the 537, I did and I love it

I've come back from worse than that. It will be fine. But buy a second.

I went with the 1433. However with the new world of evenly weighted surfing, I want even more grunt. I would rather have Waaay too much hole shot, than top speed. I can always cruise slower.

A sand bar did that? I'm lucky, knock on wood, and haven't grounded a prop yet, but I guess I didn't realize a sand bar could take off chunks... I was picturing your prop highly polished on the edges and maybe bent around a little... So naive...

Yeah we were surfing at about 12MPH when that happened. I didn't really know what to expect as I haven't ever hit something before, I figured this was really bad but above they say it can be fixed. Dumb question but are props universal between boats? If they have the same V-Drive?

Not universal. In boards use a completely different type of prop from an I/O or outboard. Within the inboards, there are different size prop shafts as well as different ends where the prop seats. Some are splined, some are tapered. Next, there are different prop shaft angles and drop length of the strut. This sets the distance between the shaft and hull, thus determining the diameter of the prop that would fit, without causing gel coat burn. Oh, and then theres left hand and right hand rotating props.

So, you need a LH 1.125" tapered 4 blade inboard prop no larger than 14".

I have seen the work at Nettles Props in Austin, TX. I will be sending a 537 to him soon that looks to have similar damage to yours. Found some granite on lake LBJ and ran into Austin, Nettles saved our vacation with a new 1433 upgrade Prop puller and nut kit. Pretty awesome for Surf behind our 05 22V.

I did the same thing couple weeks ago. I have the black v drive. Went 1433 and it was huge improvement. Boat planes out faster, hole shot is better and top speed feels faster but is 3mph slower. Seems like fuel consumption is better but can't confirm.
