Custom 1600 GPH Pump

We put together a custom 1600 GPH pump kit that will mate with Fly High W731 quick-connect fitting. Coil reinforced ballast hose over the clear vinyl hose, so no collapsing on the side of the boat. Its on its way to the owner, so we'll report back with feedback as soon as we get some.

Looks like you could easily use them as plumbed in ballast pumps. 1" fpt inlet is easy to work with. Too bad they're $125 ea. But if you're always in a hurry it might be worth it.

Tige has a history of using a plastic PVC ball valve. The weight if this pump needs to be on a bronze marine ball valve. 2nd, I would probably suggest adding a backing plate between the hull and thru-hull jam nut. Again, weight.The pump has a 1" inlet and the factory thru-hull is .75", so a reducer and nipple is needed. I would probably just upgrade the to a new 1" thru-hull since you're having to add in a backing plate anyway. This needs 1" at least or 1.125" hose. No big deal if you have a ballast sac, we can upgrade those fittings easy, and need to! But, if you have a factory hard tank, upgrading from a .75" hose barb to a 1" may no be easy to find. Finally, wire gauge and fuse. Cant remember what size gauge the wire is.

I feel like that would put a hole in my boat the second I'm only half paying attention to what I'm doing, toss the pump overboard, and then realize the hose is caught on something and it swings back and slams into my hull lol.....

Hi Mike, how heavy is the pump unit itself? It looks heavy with all of that metal? I am wondering if it would be safe to throw overboard when filling (if not plumbed in)?

Yes, its heavy, dont have the weight at my finger tips but can dig it up. This setup is for manually filling over the side, but you would not want to "toss" it my any means. I would not leave it unattended either.

No feedback yet on this particular setup, but I did learn a few things. This pump is way real heavy with its bronze base. Looking at the 2K GPH thats all plastic and smaller. Also want to shorten the inlet fittings, but not sure how to do that without manufacturing our own 1" MPT x Fly High quick connect. The next thing is to find a better male plug. 14ga cabling is pushing it to connect to a universal replacement ACC socket plug.
