24ve factory ballast

When adding additional rear sacs to a '09 24ve with factory ballast, is it possible to plumb in the sacs to the hard tanks so they'll fill off of the factory pumps? Or is it even recommended? If so, what's the recommended routing....hard tank vent to sac, then sac vent to factory vent outlet? Any need to upgrade the pumps to compensate for the increased volume?

We simply used a manual fill pump on our 24V, but would really like to avoid that process if possible. Factory ballast will be a new luxury for us, so any help is much appreciated.

You can do two things. You can add on or "piggy back" off your stock ballast tanks. Or you can remove the tanks (they should come out pretty easy) and install just 1 single larger sac. If you are surfing I would suggest pulling out the tanks and getting the biggest sac you can. If you wakeboard, it might be nice to have both. It will take a while to fill a large sac with the stock pump. Do you switch sides very often?

As duffy said you can piggyback but my understanding is this will greatly increase you fill times for the surf sac since the hard tank will fill first and then the overflow will be used to fill the surf sac. Also, if you keep the hard tank and add a second pump you will want to make sure the hard tank fills first and then fill the surf sac (per recommendation from Tige). The volume of water in the hard tank is supposed to protect the surf sac from damaging the top of your hard tank.

95% of the folks who surf with us ride regular, so switching port to starboard quickly isn't a priority.

We're still shopping for a ve so I can't verify for myself, but where are the hard tanks located exactly? I assumed directly underneath the locker floor...the floor being some sort of plywood. It would make sense that Tige recommends filling the hard tanks first to better support the 1000+ lbs of additional ballast.

My initial thoughts were to keep the factory tanks and plumb in jumbo sacs (or custom) ~1100 lbs to fill the rear lockers, then additional (smaller) sacs to fill the locker area heading forward. Basically the enzo sac idea, but 2 sacs instead of 1 in case we don't need the full ballast weight to prevent sloshing.

Any idea how the factory pumps compare to the manual Tsumani pumps as far as flow rates? Has anyone upgraded these? I'd be willing to upgrade the factory pumps (if possible) if it meant not having to manually fill the addional sacs.

Why are you switching from a 24v to a ve?

Considering getting into a newer model, with alpha z tower, vision seat, etc, etc. Surfing is our top priority with interior space a close second.

Interior size should be the same. It would be cheaper to buy a new captains seat and tower The 24v has more more for hidden ballast then the 24ve, the hull are similar if not the same. Just some food for thought. If you don't sell your 24v, buy my custom sacs (for sale in the classifieds) and your wave will be monstrous.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping this would be straight forward and easy....but what fun would that be? Looks like I've got some homework to do...
