RZ2 basic ballast to Surf plus

Great looking boat .....the modifications have already started on mine as well to include new pumps, larger diameter hose and opposite side venting/draining. Will probably do the check valves as well. Figured it I was replacing all of the old hose, I might as well cross the sides as well and just be done with it all!

I am going to go out on a limb here and state that I think this problem is not nearly as big as it is being made out to be. Now I am sure I am going to take a quick beating...so watch this.

On my old 24V and my current boat with big custom sacks, the level of the top of the sack is still barely below the level of the overflow, so self draining is a trivial problem. I see about a gallon come out during an entire surf session (about 8 pounds). It is a small trickle.

It seems only necessary if your boat is especially shallow, or the sack is so tall that it is above the level of the overflow when the boat is in surf mode. Even keeping in mind the lean, and the rise.

I would still put the overflow in the front of the storage locker, but below the rubrail. It just looks so much better, IMHO.

This is a full custom sac (almost the same specs as the enzo sac, but it was made before they created the enzo sac). The overflow is in the rear compartment, towards the front. No water is coming out.

Hah! It was not your fault I did not think through my install! You spec'd, ordered, and delivered exactly what I asked for. And back then, fewer RZ2s were configured to run with the rub rail in the water, so passive draining was not as prominent an issue.

In another thread you mentioned you had a bad batch of check valves ... could you see if any of my orders had that batch included?

Surfing and high volume ballast systems have really evolved in the past few years. We are all learning something every day. Modifying a boat is like doing a hotrod or building a rock crawler/4x4, etc. Every new mod will usually effect something else, leading to a mod or tweak of some kind. They can always be a constant work in progress.

The check valve issues were experienced by those that were running impeller pumps. You should not see an issue with the valve in the vent line.

I know longer use the ones offered by Fly High. The ones I use now are a "duck-bill" design v's a flapper. Its always closed due to the design of the rubber and easily allows water/air to pass in the intended direction.

What kind of issues did you experience with the fly high valves and impellar systems?
Does the duckbill style take much pressure to open?

SO, I finally have some time and I got around to installing the ballast upgrade. I started with cleaning up the extra battery switch with something that matches the factory and flush mounted them.

Here is the location of my filling pumps, this is the only picture I have so far, I'll take more today but I was on a roll and I'm trying to get on the water today. The orange pumps are from the factory, they are Rule 1000s. The white pumps are Attwood Tsunami 800s. I went with the Attwoods mostly due to price, had to keep the CINC House happy and stay close to an 800 budget. I got to visit Wakeman22 on one of my trips and even though he loped his fill hoses, he had passive draining through the pumps so I put check valves on the new fill pumps. I also routed the drain and vent lines to the opposite side, which required about 70' of hose for all the fill, drain and vent hoses.



I'm holding off on the transfer line for a little bit. The easiest thing to do is have the transfer line meet at a reversible impeller style pump so I can either save up for that or do something different. I'm thinking of using the aerator drain pump already installed with a valve to divert water overboard for draining or into the other sac. I think I can mount the valve handle in one of the storage areas on the transom so its easy to reach, but I'm still thinking.
