    He probably means Synthetic Blend MerCruiser Engine Oil 25W-40.

    where do you get 20-40 oil? I know of 25-40 that merc sells but have not seen 20-40 oil for at least 15 years made by anyone. I know it was around in the 70's.

    Yeah especially a Merc v-drive like you have with the mufflers also in the way. Almost as much fum as the drain plug on the fuel cooler.

    you can install a remote oil filter housing kit that will eliminate that whole hard to get to headache, and I second the motion, be glad you don't have a V drive.

    I honestly don't think the weight is going to matter if you aren't turning it over. I think in certain conditions, the engine has a harder time turning over with heavier weights of oil. If it's just sitting, I don't think weight will matter.

    My 05 Ci Engine manual states wrt oils...
    5.7L/350CID

    Marine Power does NOT recommend the use of multi-viscosity, non detergent type oils. Oils that contain solid additives or low quality oils0other than 20w-40 20w-50) are also not recommended.

    The chart sez...below 32 20w...32-50 30w..above 50 40w

    Since our temps vary from 20 to 100 over the course of the year, I find this to be a bit confusing. During winter storage (inside non heated) it certainly can reach 20.

    In the boat, I have 20w-40 for the past year as recommended by my local boat dealer (non Tige dealer).

    Is 20W-40 the proper type?
