Sub install questions

Done deal, we are going with a sealed sub box for out exile 12".

I have always preferred a sealed box to a ported box. To me subs seem to sound much cleaner and crisp in a sealed enclosure and ported seems to be louder. Agree with Z1Fan that Chpthril (Mike) would have most likely have "scientific" data versus opinions.

Not referencing any particular woofer, sound wise is totally personal preference. Some woofers perform best in a ported while others do best sealed and some fall in the middle. From an output standpoint, ported yields a 3db output advantage over sealed. Ported requires a larger enclosure there is less room for error. Sealed takes up less space and is far more forgiving. I like how the xi12 sounds in a sealed.

We weren't planning on porting. Not being an audiophile guy, I don't know what porting would do. We don't wanting a booming sub, just clean and clear. Port or no port?

I have that sub in my boat with a slot ported box, and and exile 1200.1 amp and it hits hard, Like I mean a tonne

Suggests a range something like 1.1 to 1.4 cu ft including
volume taken up by the sub.

Is that 1.14 cubic inches after you accounted for the subwoofers volume in the box?

We are installing an exile xi12 sub. The box you see below is 1.14 cu ft and we plan to install it below the heater in our '07 24ve, in the compartment in front of the drivers seat. The box is 3/4" mdf and will be soaked in epoxy, carpeted and mounted on the floor below the heater. I also plan to put a thin sheet of HDPE below the sub to keep it off the floor. How important is it to seal between the sub box and the bulkhead wall in front of the drivers seat? Will the carpet cut well using a jigsaw or should I cut it out with a knife before cutting the bulkhead? Any other tips or troubles spots you see brewing?
