I was confused also, but I think marine power, the mp just got changed to mc somewhere along there and it just kept getting used. Maybe I'm still confused though
For a factory install, I really couldn't tell you. But if you go to a go-fast website like offshore only, which is where I went to research marinepower before buying our boat, people have very good things to say about marinepower especially when replacing a blown merc for less money.

When I was looking to upgrade the 20V in 04 and 05, Mercruiser had a 1 year warranty, PCM had a 2 year and Marine Power had a 3 year warranty. PCM now has a 3 year warranty so not so sure when they changed. I like my MP over the mercruiser in my old boat. Never had a PCM so I cannot comment except in pictures they look good.
I have a Merc in my Malibu and it has been a solid engine for 10 plus years, so no complaints. I have been a big fan of Tige's for a while now but when they went to MP, I thought that was a bad move. Not that MP is a bad engine, its just that their background is saltwater applications and bigger boats. I hadn't heard of them until I saw Elan boats. formerly American Skier start to use them. Probably because they were a Louisiana company trying to support their own.
So when I saw Tige go that route. It just made me think that service would be an issue up north here. The only MP technicians would be at the TIGE shop. Forget about warranty work. 10 years from now who is going to be able to fix my marine power engine.
I have had experience with PCM as well. Everything from the 80's mastercrafts with PCM 351's, to GT40's (351), and even the ZR6. All good, except for 1 tranny rebuilt. The tranny they used in the 1:1 direct drive isn't as beefy as the Merc Velvet.
So I think PCM will be good for Tige and owners. Since Tige will be in their top 2 customer base I would expect good customer service. PCM builts ski boat inboards. That is all they do.

I use my boat in saltwater and PCM worries me a little. I talked to my dealer about this as he has several saltwater customers and he said that as long as you order the cat system then you get closed loop cooling, which is pricier, but hopefully will do the trick...I guess time will tell.
I think it means you can get closed loop cooling option only after you option a CES cat. I optioned the CES cat and the warm water shower but no closed loop cooling.
