RPM gauge isn't working:(

I don't even know where to start. RPM gauge isn't working on my 2005 Tige 24v. Do assume the gauge isn't working? Can I use a volt meter to see if the engine is sending the signal?

Engine? Tach gets its info from the negative side of the coil. Check wiring behind the dash first.

If you have a dvohm meter you can go to the back of the guage and check power and ground, then voltage from coil , switch meter to read frequency, hook up to signal wire on guage and you can read signal up and down as engine is accelerated.

Well now the gauge is stuck at 3k. Also perfect pass works perfectly. So I am guessing it's a gauge issue. Anyone know the warranty?
