We recently had a consultant come in and the first thing he did was walk our floor and just kind of shake his head at some of the manual processes we still rely on. I get it, we built the system around what worked in 2015 and nobody wanted to touch it because it was "good enough." But watching competitors turn around orders in half the time with automated conveyors and real time tracking made our management finally open their eyes. The cost breakdown was genuinely surprising to me because I always assumed modern systems were just for big players with deep pockets but apparently the long term savings on labor and error reduction can offset the upfront investment faster than most people think. We're still in the evaluation phase right now but I found a breakdown on khaleejday.com that actually laid out the numbers in a way that made sense without all the sales pitch language.
