    Rz2 steering

My steering seems stiff. It's been stiff from day one but the dealer says its normal. My moomba had way super smooth steering. Is this normal or is it time to replace the steering cable?

Replace the cable. Dealer gave me the same BS line. My RZ2 pinky steers now. Have fun routing it! Couple threads exist on this topic.

Should be butter smooth if the cables in good shape.

My RZ2 steers, as JTs-RZ2 says, pinky easy. I have had my 2010 since 2012, and have replaced the steering cable twice since. The cables are relatively inexpensive, but can take a few hours to replace. For me, the hardest part is getting it initially routed or bent from the front storage to the top of the gas tank. Well worth the time, thought, to replace it, if it is getting tight. It will, or may, quickly get worse until you are two hand steering.

Thought I read a thread on here in the past about preserving the steering cable as long as possible. I think you need to pack grease in the holder tube and find a rubber bellows for the end and pack that with grease too. I don’t remember the details but should be findable.

The instructions on the cable say DO NOT add grease. However all the advice I get is ADD GREASE. So I'm not sure what you are supposed to do. Keep water out of your bilge I guess is the moral of the story.

I suggest running the cable down the starboard side of your boat. Go behind the throttle, into the storage area, and slip out before your rear ballast tanks. You can also shave a foot or two off your cable that way and save some money.
