Thread: Considering a 2016 RZX, Pros/Cons

  1. Considering a 2016 RZX, Pros/Cons

Hi Tige Owners, I'm buying a new boat. One that came up I need to look at is the RZX and I found a well equipped 2016. Curious on what I should look for, must have vs. nice to haves.

Any major issues with the 2016? I believe it has the 575, but need to confirm. I know the RZX will surf amazing, how is the wakeboard wake at 19 to 23?

Does the ZX replace the RZX in 2019? So is the 2016 the first year of the RZX?

    Help me decide. RZX, Ri237, Fi23, SE550, XT23.

Welcome to the sight. There has been a lengthy thread on a 2016 RZX. Bottom line: If if has the 575 you will be very happy with it. If it does not I think I would steer clear unless it's a flat out smoking deal and you plan to upgrade the engine or transmission.
If I was just coming into boating and knew what I know now, I probably would have gone Centurion or Supra. We have grown to love Tige and the great Tige Family so we'll be here a while.

    There's great info here:

Depending on your location, 575 may not be necessary. At elevation definitely go with 575. Here is MN(800'), the Raptor 400 is fine. 2016 did not have the new Alpha E2 power tower, which I think is a must have. I put my boat on a boat lift with a canopy and need to raise/lower the tower every time.

The ZX does not replace the RZX series, it is a whole different model and hull shape.

RZX2 wakeboard wake is amazing. I'm intermediate/advanced level rider, ride at 75'(could go 80') 22.5MPH, front ballast 100%, rear ballast 100% full. Then, depending on number of people, TAPS at 2-5 and Pnp empty to 75%. Wake is firm, big, and great kick. It's more vertical versus older models which seem to be more rampy. Only wakeboard wake I've ridden that has topped it would be G23.

Both great boats. Commented on the Facebook page so I’ll keep it simple here.

Some say the 440 isn’t right but it’s because of the prop, without the proper prop it’s garbage but once you get things worked out and prop it right it’ll push anything you throw at it.

In the other thread, I am not sure I bought the guy's complaints completely. I am not going to read the whole thread again, but it seemed he expected the 440 to do OK at 5000 feet elevation, IIRC. If the 440 can't push it at or near sea level, then something is wrong with the motor, or the prop needs a different pitch.
    Be excellent to one another.

He was trying to run full ballast plus 11 people with the wrong prop at 6000ft. I can run full pnp, 900 lead, 6 people, taps 3 engaged surfing at 11.4 no problem at just above sea level. So drop weight down a bit and you’ll be good to go.

I also wanted to point out, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. The only boats you have listed that is a good direct comparison is the Ri237, the rest are not direct competitors or comparisons to the RZX.

The Fi23 and Xt23 are more comparable to R23/Z3. The SE550 is a big boat, more comparable to ZX5.

I would like to echo what these guys above are saying - unless at elevation, you do not need the 575. If propped right, the '16 RZX will move some weight and make a wave just fine!

We played around with a '16 model quite a bit last summer - threw quite a bit of lead at it and it performed very well. I will say, the 2/1 transmission is awesome and made a world of difference - but I would not discount the '16 model RZX just because it didn't have one.

So I am not a wakeboarder at all anymore - however, at around 20 mph the wake looks amazing. Wakeboarding hurts too bad these days to even try it out though...
