Thread: Mission Reef Inflatable Mat

I've been nothing but impressed with everything Mission does.

I want one of that mats badly.... Grrrrrr!!!!! I'm waiting patiently for a group buy or discount of any sort comes around. I should have pulled the trigger during their memorial day sale.

UPS delivered this bad boy last night. First impressions.... Its built like a freaking tank. Quality is outstanding. I inflated it and bounced around on it. Rock solid. When I was unpacking it I was immediately concerned about how heavy it is. I was having flashbacks of trying to fold my original gigantic floating island back up. But after inflating and deflating it a few times, it folds up really easily and when in the bag its not very heavy at all. I will get it out on the water today and see how it performs.

Great timing. I actually have their site up in front of me, debating about hitting the BUY button. What size did you get, the small (6X8) or Large (6.5X13)? The reason I ask is my concern over the weight.

    Thanks in advance

I just weighed it in the bag. 57lbs. In comparison, my 20ft Costco Neptune island pad weighs 26lbs. (Obviously no bag). Even though it's double the weight, the REEF is so much more compact. It makes the weight manageable. I can also tell it's going to be way more durable. But to answer your original question, I would go with the bigger one. I think the weight difference won't be that big of a deal. If I remember correctly, the smaller one is around 40lbs. But you are going to want the extra space on the mat.

Tell them Caleb at Surf ATX sent you! I told the Mission guys I was the tigeowners guinea pig and I would spread the word if I liked the REEF.

I just ordered the large mat from Ambush. I had a $50 Ambush gift card, plus when I signed up for their mailing list and created an account I received a 10% off code.

So the mat was on sale for $898 (on sale, haha). I applied the 10% discount code to make it $808.20. With the $50 Ambush Gift card my total for the mat was $758.20.

I feel like that is a great deal for what you get!

Will let you know what I think after a week of using it on Norris Lake!

I wanted to pop in here and let everyone know that I'm loving the Mission Reef! I got a little sidetracked with the Liquid Lumens review. So haven't had time to do a write up on this. But it has performed flawlessly. Its only drawback is its pretty heavy when its all bagged up. But nothing you can't handle.

I'd also like to tell everyone about a secret weapon for this thing. I was using a high pressure air raid pump to get it mostly blown up. Then topping off with the hand pump. this works just fine. But its a bit of a process. I decided I needed a better solution.

Solution? Bravo High Pressure 12 Volt Pump. I actually owned one of these a few years ago. It worked just fine blowing up SUPs and a couple other things. It works flawlessly with he reef. Just lock it in and wait for it to do its thing. I timed it today. From completely flat to 7.5psi it took 8 minutes. It gets more than enough blown up in about 5 minutes. Its a duel action pump. First it uses a high flow pump, then switches over to a piston to get the PSI up. It also has an automatic shutoff when it reaches your selected pressure.

Its not cheap at $159. But its worth its weight in gold on the water. Especially since you can do other things while it works. Cheapest place I found it was Austin Kayak Company for $159. if you sign up for their email you'll receive a 15% off coupon you can apply.

If you have one of these pads, you need this pump. Link below.
